Is it really that good?
>>
No. It's really too simple compared to the 'mainline' Souls games and doesn't offer much over them. The combat only encourages reflexively iframing through everything at every opportunity.

Setpieces, music, bosses, enemies, atmosphere, it's all amazing. Replayability does not exist, build variety is horrid, and muh 24 fps.

>>379684257
No.

It wanted to an action game but brought with it too many legacy features from the RPG games which it then streamlined to be basically meaningless. In the end it's not good at being either.

Its the pinnacle of the souls formula and shows how good it works when you scrap some of the "mandatory" RPG elements fags love so much.

It has the best gameplay, the best mechanics, the best world design, the two best bosses, best extra content, etc.
>>
It's about as good as any other entry in the soulsborne series, which is pretty damn good
definitely didn't feel the need to replay as much as I did in DaS1 though

I understand that you have the right to play in any style that you desire, but I would suggest not parrying if you think that is an issue.

It has some of the greatest atmosphere and level design in gaming. Not just in this generation, but ever. There's so much to discover and the lore is amazing. It's the only game to do what Lovecraft was trying to do right in a video game medium. If not for a few technical issues, this game would be the perfect action game. However, I'll just be content with giving it a 10/10.

With the DLC added it's the best game between the modern FromSoft ARPGs.

So yes. It is really that good.
>>
>>379687270
Do you need help? Just ring the Beckoning Bell, which consumes 1 insight (you acquire insight by encountering/beating bosses and through items called Madman's Knowledge). You can get the Beckoning Bell in the Hunter's Dream, and you can also buy a Small Resonant Bell to get summoned into other people's games to earn insight.

It sounds like you might need to get slightly farther to do that, though. I would suggest running past enemies if you really are unable to fight them, as you will be able to better outfit yourself shortly. Barring that I could always just give you my PSN and you could summon me.
>>
>>379687270
literally just play the game, dude
>>
Yes it is good. Once you are used to the fast combat, it is hard to go back to Dark Souls.
>>
>>379687270
The very beginning of the game, right?

Listen, just remember enemy placement and try only engaging 1-4 at a time. Remember where some are supposed to come from behind and kill those after you kill any the walk directly towards you. Be willing to retreat to where you came in from if you're getting swarmed, and they might even be easier to deal with when they're chasing you down a narrow corridor.

Once you get to the VERY large group you can use pebbles to draw them out one at a time. If you aggro the ones with guns then just draw the melee ones out of their line of fire and kill them there.

No matter how bad shit gets keep playing. It's fine to ask for help, but try to keep spoilers at a minimum if possible. This game is a fucking experience. Happy huntin' you little fucker.

Spin2win axe
Or cleaver if you want to learn the game and not rely on a crutch.
>>
>>379687639
The Cleaver and Ax are usually recommended. The Cane isn't bad once you put skill into it, but it doesn't pack the early game punch of the cleaver or the ax. Ax if you're planning on strength, cleaver can be good for quality.

If you're rocking the cleaver you're honestly set, its one of the best weapons in the game.

BB is the only soulsborne game I've played. I consider it to be like the modern-day 3D equivalent to Castlevania SOTN, but with much better role playing elements and difficulty. Then it adds great multiplayer options on top of that. And I was a massive SOTN fan back in the day
>>
>>379687639
>What weapon do you recommend for beginners? I never played any Souls game so I'm pretty much a babby in this type of game. I'm using that saw-looking weapon right now.
Most people say the Axe is the best. Ironically the literally only weapon I used turned out to be the supposed worst starting weapon. The cane. I fucking love the cane. I don't care if it's supposed to be bad, I always made it work. Fuck what they say, we're partners, and we are each other's strength.

>How does one even get pass through this?
The only way I can see that situation in the webm happening is if he had already been up there to aggro them in the first place.
>>
>>379687867
The cane isn't bad, it just takes a bit to pay off. Once you're at about +10 with 40 Skill, you're in business.
>>
>>379686934
You can do it if you just grind a bit. I got the game in 2016 and I quit really early but I came back to it this year and I can do it fine now.

>>379687590
Yeah,I managed to disperse them now but the dog fucking got my ass. How tight is the i-frames on this game? I play monhun and I can somehow iframe some attacks without evasion skill.

Yes, dodging is the way to go. Some attacks you should dodge into, not away from. Don't question it.

Also, locking on gives you a different and more efficient dodge than when you aren't. You probably already know this, but you used "rolling" instead of just "dodging" or "dashing" so there you go.

The trick weapon mechanic is pretty neat, the bosses all have pretty great themes. Some of the bosses will make you tear your hair out, but overall still fun enough to play through at least once.
>>
>>379685576
Gherman wasn't shit compared to Ludwig, or Laurence, or Orphan, or even Maria. At his hardest moment he was sorta a blend between Gascoigne and Logarius in his melee form. He was still a pretty enjoyable fight even if he was parry bait.
>>
I fell for the meme but I'm not really finding the appeal, this is the very definition of reddit core shit to me. Edge lord game with "hard" difficulty for aspie reddit users to brag about their l337 gayman skills and 2deep4u anime nonsense storyline. Instead the game is very easy and exploitable, and even if you're too dumb to exploit it, you can still grind like in every other weeb memegame such as Persona 5. Music is also either non existant or generic 2spooky cinematic style orchestral trash, the graphics are a brown and bloom mess that runs at unstable 30fps unless you buy the PS4pro.

Even Dark Souls 3 combat looks stiff by comparison. I always heard great things about DS combat. Probably made a mistake starting with BB, seems like it'll have spoiled the rest of the Souls games for me.
>>
>>379689439
Get the fuck out
>>
>>379684552
I really don't like BB's music. It's very samey for the whole game and that's a real problem when you consider how much money they had and that they had an entire orchestra to do this.

Almost any boss track can be swapped with another, and the only real good track (which use fully the orchestra and gets movie vibes) is Gehrman's one.

It's sad, but I think that Yuka Kitamura did a better job by herself when it comes to give a boss a personality through music with her pitiful virtual orchestra and her shitty organs (which are awful in tracks like Yhorm's) than with an entire orchestra and shitlords specialized in orchestras.

Living Failures was a good proof of it. They copied Holz's Mars for the first part because AYYLMAOs. I consider that as disrespect for the video game audience.
>>
>>379689458
DS combat is about being patient and exploiting movement
BB combat is about being aggressive and exploiting movement
Both are great.
>>
>>379688631
There's git gud mode where you die enough to the point where you get frustrated enough to walk away, or motivated enough to learn the rhythm of combat in it and become untouchable.
>>
>>379684834
Also a fucked balance which relies on hidden defense stats which make low level playthroughs a living hell, shitty procedural chalices which shouldn't even be in the game, a meh level design when you get out of Yarhnam that only gets good again with the dlc, bad diversity with the trick weapons because only 4-5 weapons have truly unique movesets while the other weapons have either a buff form or reuse other movesets (like the sword moveset which is use by ludwig's sword, the hammer.) . Bosses have poor movesets to be somewhat fair and have 5 moves for most.

Get real anon, BB has flaws it shouldn't have.

Best aesthetics, worst gameplay.
From couldn't figure out how to make the game difficult so they took what made DS1 good and threw it out the window by putting enemies in areas that no amount of cautiousness can avoid.
The "hard" bosses are only hard because they're designed in a way that they can't be countered, or so aggressive that you can never land a hit on them. The recover system is an awful substitute for defense too during boss fights, since you never really get a window to benefit from it, meaning the fights are basically back to playing like the souls games, but now you have no way of protecting yourself.

-Orignal setting (nothing exhausted like fantasy or scigi)
-tested formula but refined with original aspects that change it up enough to be something different and also an improvement (most of the time)
-good art style for weapons, enemies, characters and environment. Everything looks good. Not cartoony but still a believable not quite realistic aesthetic
-good soundtrack
-good level design
-good combat (see above)
-interesting world building and lore that can be ignored if you don't care and fully lose yourself into if you do
-perfect quantity of content since the DLC is released

parrying was and always will be for pussies. The visceral attack damage removes all the fun and the tension of a fight. Mastering a single timing or a time frame isn't as fun as mastering an entire bossfight and knowing perfectly well a moveset.

In short: you're a scrub
>>
>>379684257

And even that boss was well designed since they split them up into close, mid and long range compared to for example ruin sentinels where it's just three melee bosses constantly flailing at you.
Shadows of yharnam is much more interesting because the arena design and the three phases change the fight a lot and adds strategical options as to who to kill first.
>>
Yes.
It has a few issues, like
>few different builds
>first armor you find is the best
>there's unique content in chalice dungeons
But playing the main game once or twice it's probably the best game I've ever played.
Bosses early except Gascoigne are arguably a bit weak design wise, but it picks up really quickly.

Equip the runes that give you +4 bullets and +1 bullet back when you do viscerals and then just spam them when he's about to attack. If you run out of bullets start blood bullets. Also equip lots of shit to throw like knives or molotovs, he is extremely easy to hit.

You can also just go into NG+ and start leveling Arcane until you get Blackeye Skye then you can kill Gerhman without him ever hitting you once.

>few different builds
Bloodborne has at least 3 main archetypes, all of which can be hybridized. What it doesn't do is give the illusion of build variety by having singular weapons/spells that require an entire build to use.

>first armor you find is the best
Hunter Garb isn't the best armor by any means. It isn't the best for Beasthood staching, Frenzy Resist stacking, or Def stacking for any damage type for that matter.

Threadly reminder that parrying is a crutch and only serves to ruin your play experience to a degree second only to multi-summoning.

There is only one negative thing about Bloodborne and that is the Byrgenwerth area. They left out the dungeon beneath it so it is extremely short. Shadows and Rom are two bosses where most players will struggle so it will introduce grinding and having to track back to earlier areas. It is also extremely underdeveloped storywise after all we heard about Byrgenwerth. I mean how hard would it have been to put a dungeon beneath it which serves as an entry point to the chalice dungeons? They even had the trap door there.

It's actually pretty funny how much shit you can get away with by running past enemies

You can either run past them or cheese them. I never bothered much with that area level and just straight run straight to the boss usually. In the unseen village you should explore a lot though since there's a key to another optional area.

Logarius is easy if you parry him. fighting him without it is a pain.
>>
>>379693958
Did you actually explore Hypogean Gaol before you broke the ritual?

If you opened up the side doors, use them to sneak around back. You can start the fight by getting a free backstab/visceral on the hunter on the stairs, then funnel them all into the hallway for an easy victory.

Not quite but just a bit outside of the church and I did kill darkbeast carl.

I'll figure it out. Chances are I'll just run past them or git gud and fight them with no cheese

It tends to spike a lot earlier than other Souls games. Just stick to it and don't bother with the first beast, he's optional and pretty bland anyway. Gascoigne should be your target-- once you can handle Gascoigne you have the skills necessary for most of the rest of the game.

Honestly, Cascoigne is one of the most brilliant 'casual filters' (for lack of a better term) in gaming, imo.

Its really great and I see why people like it a lot. However I genuinely prefer Dark Souls I and III.

Sonygqers will tell you only people who haven't played it would say III is better. While Bloodborne has more originality and better atmosphere, III does two things central to the Souls games better that make me prefer it
>better designed, more diverse levels
>better, more fun bosses

That's it. You can have a laundry list of reasons as to why BB is absolute kino, why every last bit of it is genius game design and go on all the rants you want. But III is just plainly more fun to play. Cathedral of the Deep in III is the best designed Souls area ever.

This was not my post. And yes Parrying is for scrubs because of how much damage it does, while it requires very little time to understand the time frames

And I can safely say that I played BB before even touching it by playing roll only in the three dark souls games. BB is awfully balanced compared to the 3 other games. I managed to beat DS1 with a SL4 and there was not a single boss, including Manus which could kill you with a single hit.
BB on the other hand is full of them. I wanted to beat the chalices early on my first playthrough, and the chalices have baffling design. The undead giant with a boulder is easily the worst boss I've ever seen in any game.

A lot of people say the cleaver is great, but honestly I don't see it. When it's folded it's attack speed is good, it's damage output is ok, and it's reach is nearly non existent. When it's extended it's moveset sucks and it's attack speed is too slow. I'd recommend the Hunter's Axe until you can get either the Kirk Hammer or Ludwig's Holy Blade.

you realize most invaders invade the host already has phantoms, yes? and the host has a myriad of advantages at their disposal compared to the average invader, for example in DS3

invaders

I'm doing mostly cosplay builds that are obviously not optimal for pvp.
Pvp fags have cookie cutter builds and used to twink alot in DaS when it was still possible.
On top, adding in lvl range the invader might have better stats than you in total.
It's a stupid thing to engage in pvp in an RPG that's as unbalanced as souls

Get better tastes anon. If orchestras give you boners, then good for you. But that's pretty lazzy at all levels. You want comparisons? I can do it too.

Try cleric beast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICSk8-pJkX8
Intro, female chorus, bla bla bla, then comes 0:45 and they get back to the same routine, 4/4 with the same background ominous strings+ Brass because it needs to be epic right? Try to tell me why it couldn't be used on any not lovecraftian boss? Blood starved beast, gascoigne? You name it. it is not tied to a particular boss, because it is placeholder scary movie music.
BSB : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvUmL8uaE48
>Strings+ brass,
The One Reborn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BncJ1yX-BgQ
>"undead" voices + bells + female chorus and then 1:10, same routine, strings with the same pattern but + brass
Amygdala: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BihcP_GduOk
>Same idea good intro, then 2nd part that could be swapped with Gascoigne's or BSB.
Rom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zxEOIRQwd4
>Intro with female chorus, quite sparse, then second part kicks in, strings + brass + drums.

There's quite a reason for why you remember so well Ludwig's, Maria's, Gehrman's, it's because they are the only tracks that try to be different from the same core score that has no personality. If the tracks were more tied to the action, a particular boss, or a specific moment, the generic bosses of the chalices wouldn't share the 3 same tracks. Most of BB's soundtrack is quite generic and could be use anywhere else. And Gehrman's theme, while being great is not enough to make up for this painted by numbers thing.
>>
>>379703918
You have no idea what you're talking about

The soundtrack has thematic returns of various melodies and structures to carry a continuum and relationship to linked bosses and areas. The One Reborn has very similar intentional shit going on to the chant you hear done by the choir earlier in the game.

Boiling everything down to "strings, brass drums" is fucking retarded. The orchestra is supposed to have these voices and consistency. This isn't a fucking Sonic sound track where every track is it's own level of midi autisticness and soundfont garbage.

The soundtrack for BB is literally thematic and recurring as fuck. It's those differences that occur with themes like Ebrietas and co's OST's that cement weight and create very serious tonal changes.

The whole thing culminates and leads in to Gehrmans theme, with a lullaby just before it, to put you to sleep but ironically wake you from the nightmare back into the dream.

It's the best OST of all From's games and easily top 5 all time for vidya.
>>
>>379704316
>carry a continuum and relationship to linked bosses and areas
Bullshit! We don't need samey things for bosses that have absolutely no ties or very minimal ones between them. Using themes that comes back at moments is a good thing but it has literally no impact if the score keeps playing the same things over and over.
Listen once more the DS3 soundtrack, which despite being very low-cost managed to have very different themes while keeping some consistency with the themes, the areas.

Vordt, has the brain dead theme that you could expect, the dancer has a theme that is intentionally slow which refers to the slow movements of the boss, the dissonant chore is only a thing with the cursed tree and the cathedrale of the deep, Yhorm has his epic theme while abyss watchers have something not even similar while telling their tragic stories.

I didn't learn anything about Gascoigne while listening his theme, didn't get any reference in any BB's track at all. Even Gehrman's theme while being great felt like it was written for a movie, but not for this game. A recurring female chorus that is referenced with the emissiary and Ebrietas has not more meaning that "they are both aliens lol".

I stand by my word, they could have done something way more interesting than this lazzy soundtrack that felt like it was written years before the developpment or written without much thought.

>>
>>379703918
If you honestly believe these songs sound the same, I don't even know what to tell you.
>>
>>379705743
They're not the same but they are far from good. It's music that felt like it wrote itself. I don't feel like the composer gave really a shit about what he was doing. The best part of it is in the DLC because it's obvious that Yuka Kitamura was in charge for it. You can easily say which tracks were composed by who. BB didn't need the same constant pumped-up strings+ brass that you find in 75% of the soundtrack.
>>
>>379706240
You keep saying "strings and brass" like instruments and composition are the same thing. It sounds like your complaint here is that some of the songs don't have a distinct melody. That doesn't make them bad or lazily composed, though.
