The only turn-based RPG to ever do this right is the Mario RPG and related games. Otherwise it completely ruins the game.
Especially Mother 3, because you have to emulate it unless you want to be autistic and learn moon runes and the timed inputs are impossible on an emulator. Plus they don't tell you how to properly do them or give you an indicator until later in the game.
