I loved this game back when people actually played it online. Too bad the only person willing to play local MP games with me anymore is my super autistic nephew. And it's never really fun with him, since I have to constantly hold back at any game so he doesn't get frustrated and ragequit. And if he wins anything at all, he becomes an uppity little shit.

the easiest way to find opponents now is to look for the discord link in the discussions or on the reddit. the majority of the active community is there, you'll definitely find people willing to play.

personally i only surf quickmatch from time to time or play games with some people on my friendslist because the game gets a little stale after that many hours. i'm not in the discord but i'm still willing to play most opponents.

arguably, switch, raptor or candyman's special works the best. at a higher level of play, raptor's access to multiple options out of special due to multiple timing options and angle choice, switch's options regarding his special being a 50/50 for coverage (sharp left or right) at almost any given point in time, and candyman's options with chaining his special through the wall multiple times give each character a lot of control in certain situations.

fortunately that's not a thing you need to be worried about, as each character, despite their difference, is nearly equally viable to play. pick whichever character you like best in the end, they all have their own neat tricks to practice.
