I think I played it once. What made it good? So far my favorite has been MK DD. It had fun mayhem, yet almost everything in the game came down to skill. Spiny shells were dodgeable, but lightning wasn't, yet lightning was rare as fuck.

Yeah I remember that now. Story mode was never a necessity for games like Smash or MK for me though. Hell, I got so good at MK DD that I was untouchable and managed to get perfect scores because I spent my first 3 days of owning it earning everything available in the game. If I had to go through a story mode, I would have probably just ended up average at the game.

You could simply unlock characters and tracks using cheat codes, but I doubt that'll still fly.

You missed what I said though. MK DD was pure skill. I was good enough at one point that I could do an All Cup Tour (which is all 16 maps) without using items and end up with a perfect 160 score.

It is cool if the game doesn't rely on luck, but there still needs to be some room for mayhem in there.

I think the only canon for me are the Naughty dog games, wrath of cortex was shit and only highlighted how ND knew how to program a good game with limitations and good gameplay for its time.
