More money doesn't have to mean more photo realistic. They're probably sticking with their art style and going to instead flesh out the content itself. The only thing that feels lacking to me so far is a bit on the lighting side in some scenes and perhaps more shadows and fog in some scenes. Everything looks too crisp and clean in every shot, it doesn't really feel to me like some haunted spooky castle dungeon thing.

For all we know though maybe they really are fucking with the money and it turns out to be shit all around. We'll just have to wait and see.

A little rough around the edges but I can safely say that this is a Castlevania game.

There's no annoying broadcasters spouting memes about how awesome the game is, the animations are fast and precise, the gameplay is close to SOTN, the only bad thing I can say about it is the graphics but judging by the textures it might just be an unpolished build and the graphics do look like they've improved a bit since the last trailer.

Overall, I'm cautiously optimistic about this game.

I think the real lesson to be learned here and with MN9 is to not launch your kickstarter unless you can present an art/graphical style that's doable within your proposed budget. Almost all games have concept art that's way more appealing than the finished product, but traditional publisher-backed games don't have to sell the game to the masses on the quality of the concept art, then backpedal later and tell everyone the game looks much uglier than they anticipated.

Then again, they've already got your money, so I guess there's little incentive for them to be honest in their initial pitch.

Anyways as a developer: Lighting and shading is one of the last things you work on. It's relatively easier to find a good shader that improves the look of your game. What's more important is that the animations in the game look excellent (all of the bosses blood animations are visceral while also not being overly blinding) and it's a big improvement over the previous videos.

Like Mighty No. 9 it was gorgeous in its first iteration, but actually making the game like above would require people with genuine talent, which is crazy time and $$$. That isn't hyperbole; making 3D props, especially bland ones such as these, is something anyone can technically do. It's basically following schematics/tracing pictures in 3DS max, then just placing everything and making sure lighting is right. That's it, you just need people off the street who are competent enough to read a schematic; I mean fuck, you can nearly make a whole dev-team out of them. No artists required, which is why this game and No.9 both ended up looking like complete ass.
Of course they went all artsy with the concept, because they know that's what looks better. But now that they got people's money they're cheaping out.

That said, as I mentioned in a previous thread, you have to admit Bloodstained is going for a more gothic feel than Hollow Knight's more whimsical, high-fantasy atmosphere. They can do things sprites can never do, are more malleable, and fit better with modern rendering tech.
