Why did R* remove so many TECHNOLOGY features from GTA V?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Why did R* remove so many TECHNOLOGY features from GTA V?
>>
So its more appealing to the casual audience, just look at the stats for this game.

They had no incentive to make them because they pay for high review scores anyways. Having them would have just been extra work.

The better graphics than 4 had a cost, no such thing as this magical "optimisation"
>>
why has rockstar removed so much stuff and scaled the map down so much since sa
consoles isn't an excuse because it was on ps2 and xbox
>>
>>379624848
whats funny is there was a mockery video of how smart the ambulance was between gta IV and V, it's depressing how much they got lazy in V. in 4 they would revive the person if they weren't shot the person would get in the back of the ambulance and they ride off, in v they just look and leave.
>>
because 95% of their audience is too stupid to notice the difference.
>>
>>379625885
Because they are lazy, creatively bankrupt cunts.

The audio and the gunplay of IV feels so fucking good. Anyone else notice how V had barely anything update on the computer? IV had Alex blogs, news stories about almost every mission, and my personal favorite EddieLowFilthSlayer. I wish those motherfuckers would have made a sequel to Chinatown Wars and put in more activities in V with friends, tennis iand golf was cool and all but really there's nothing else compared to IV when you could bowl, play air hockey, golf, fly around with Brucie listening to drug fueled ramblings, do jobs for Jacob, bomb shit with Packie, baseball bat bike races, look for cars for Stevie, internet dating, talk about suicide with Dwayne until you get his homies to back you up on rampages, and just something about IV is just so damn good.
>>

That's why VC is better.
>>
>>379627284
What quality?

It kinda suck that they went full arcade with the driving in V. Even fucking slowdrive had better driving that V.
>>
>>379627539
4 was too floaty, but 5 feels like you're driving on-rails. A mix between the two, leaning slightly more towards 4, would've been perfect.
>>
>>379627694
I think that the driving in IV was litterally made by /o/ everything is mix between a crown vic and a miata.

>>
I'm so disappointed that multiplayer in GTAV is either "no fun allowed" MMO with constant loading screens and no animals or pirate servers with russkies and nothing to do.
I wish there was a simple small co-op that doesn't use lobby system every 5 minutes and has animals.

>>
>>379628074
TLaD had a grainy filter that could easily be removed in the PC version, just like the piss filter in doo sex human revolution.
>>
>>379625770
features like AI behaviors and ambulances actually picking up people and taking them to the hospital costs like no resources at all. It's just basic mission scripting. I know because I have done a lot of script modding with the mission scripting "natives" myself:
http://www.dev-c.com/nativedb/

They just use these commands in programming loops, functions and stuff like if/else statements all the time in the background. It's programmed in C and costs hardly any CPU.

So yeah I guess they just ran out of time for properly implementing some of the the stuff up to Rockstar's quality standards before the game's summer 2013 deadline. Some of the AI tech is better, like the off-road driving AI and the cop combat AI, but other stuff is missing or worse. Maybe they excused it because they thought it was bad to let you kill ambulances as they were trying to save people's lives, so they just made everyone die every time to make it more arcade-like and feel less real. They might've made cops / people more easily triggered to reflect the aggressive nature of the real LAPD and Californians.
>>
>>379627161
Rockstar has already thrived in storytelling (well, until V, which was mediocre). The actors tried their best, and I really enjoyed Michael and Trevor, but the story was all over the place and felt unfinished. Also why were the heists so shallow when they were the main selling point? Also has been said before, but I really hate playing government boy for most of a GTA game.

Online is just Online. What else do you expect?

>>
>>379628787
>heists are so shallow
Word. I think 3 out of the heists don't even give you anything. There's Trevor's retarded heist, Paleto Score (the FIB takes the money) and the Bureau Raid (they give you whatever was left from Paleto Score).

I liked some of the setup missions, like triggering the alarm in the Paleto bank. I think anyone can agree that most of the fluff in GTA V's missions was fucking padding, ie. the developers put you in a place, and you have to drive to somewhere else to trigger the next cutscene. That padding fucking sucks.

Also fucking helicopters. I dreaded helicopter missions in GTA V, because they handle like a plastic bag in a tornado

What do you mean? You do realized that games take time to develop, having the game work on the PS3, Xbox 360 and then the Xbone, PS4 and the PC takes time, they also have a deadline, I know the concept of deadlines and contracts is hard to understand to a uninformed NEET, but those still exist in the real world.

I'd argue that GTAV has just as many if not more technology shit then IV, just different stuff. The ragdoll phyisics were towned down though but even then RDR had better ragdolls than GTA IV.
As for why, because V displyed way more cars and NPCs and shit and even animals compared to IV. RDR only could look so good on last gen and have better physics beacuse it barely had a few NPCs here and there, mostly animals

>>379630446
Couldn't they somehow make it so that damage is only that relevant to the player's car/car's the player engages with? We don't need complex damages across all cars, in fact that was one of the worst parts of IV, the amount of terrible car accidents happening randomly and casually all the time. If there was a way to make it so only the player's car/cars the player crashes into have that level of damage that would be ideal. Just a thought. Also more processing power is always a good thing.

I honestly don't think removing the more complex car damage model was a performance concession, it was a gameplay choice. In V you have much farther to drive to get from place to place compared to IV, wrecking your car and getting stranded somewhere would be a huge pain. Which is is, have you tried playing GTA V with the car damage modded in? It is honestly pure torture.

I agree, I wish GTA in general would keep things more small-scale for longer, but there's gotta be a way to combine the signature outrageous missions of classic GTA with more realistic-down-to-earth ones. V tried that and failed miserably, but I also feel like the devs were trying too hard to make a "classic" GTA-style game and it didn't quite land.

The interiors, man, the interiors.

It was so fun actually going out for a cup of coffee in the morning and heading into a seedy little bar or restaurant and seeing people seemingly living their lives, seeing activity, and then heading out for your next day of reluctant crime.

If San Andreas and even Vice City had some interiors to go into, why is V so devoid of them except for a very, very, very small handful of locations? Even the spots that do have admittedly good-looking interiors are most often blocked off outside of missions.

Faustin was such a psychotic piece of shit. I can only take so much of him. he was pretty much suicidal anyway with how he behaved. Ironically he was right though, about most things. >>379633680
If I had to guess, the animations took up too much memory on the 360/PS3 so they got cut last minute. All of the late 7th Gen game were running right at the memory limit and had razor thin margins to work within, things like complex animations could send you over the limit.
>>
>>379634015
Faustin's selfishness ended up fucking his family. It was clear none of them liked being around a coked up sadistic mob boss all day. It's pretty clear he's mostly at fault for his daughter's behaviour, and on top of that it seems he ruined a good woman. The guy was piece of shit, but it was clear he was damaged goods. They needed to streamline the movement a little bit, aiming and moving in general in IV was gross. It's almost incomprehensible how it ended up in the real game.
As for climbing, I guess they went with the horizontal gameplay like the previous games. IV allowed you to climb pretty much any building, but there wasn't anything up there anyway.
Localized damage is still there, but still no gibbing. My guess is the RAGE engine can't do gibbing at all.
I think they went the right direction with pretty much everything in V, except for utilizing the map properly. A lot of locales are just there doing nothing and no mission ever touches them.
>>
such as?
>>
>>379625058
That doesn't make any sense, IV sold like hotcakes.
>>
>>379635023
Yeah, tried doing that. It's a real pain in the ass. Honestly I hope Rockstar makes GTA more like an RPG and opens up the story a bit more while also keeping it somewhere between IV and V thematically.
>>
>>379635059
>gibbing

Seeing those motherfuckers in RDR with gigantic exit wounds was so satisfying and it's just too bad it wasn't in Max Payne 3.
>>
>>379635059
the movement owned in IV wtf is wrong with you.
the problem with IV was the movement WHILE aiming.
the gun control was completely awful and retarded.

I think that about most "realistic" games in general though. They assume humans can't control guns as good as they actually can. It's probably more to do with controller compatibility than anything though.
>>
>>379635252
In some ways I like the way people tense up when they got shot in V, I just wish the actual shooting felt more powerful as it did in IV and the guys ragdoll a little bit more.

I definitely feel the tomato paste exit wounds belong in RDR, though. Brings about a very Spaghetti Western feel to the whole thing.
>>
>>379635321
>the movement owned in IV wtf is wrong with you.
Aiming from cover and out of cover in IV is terrible, you shouldn't blindly defend games you don't remember. There's localized damage and characters drop their weapons, but the accuracy is fucked. The camera is unwieldy, to say the least.
>>
>>379635321
Just turn off auto aim. I liked the partial auto aim in V more to be honest and thought it was an improvement.

I just want more small-scale stuff in the next GTA before it gets into the real shit. I mean, I get V was going for the Hollywood feel which makes sense considering the setting, but gunning down dozens upon dozens of cops and army guys just doesn't feel right. At least in IV Niko had army experience so it felt a bit more real. I always try and stick to Trevor when playing V for the same reason since he's basically a cartoon character.
>>
>>379635424
It's an audio and damage thing for me in V because the guns sound like shit and the motherfuckers took way too many bullets to die.

IV sfx sound like artillery cannons in comparison and that's definitely a big factor for a shooter.
>>
>>379635532
read my post again LOL.
I literally said the problem is gun control.
the actual movement and physics itself was the best thing.
>>
>>379635424
All the guns felt like pea shooters in IV. The animations were also disgusting. That part of the gameplay carried over from the older games and it shows, especially the awful camera movement. And most enemies are bullet sponges, so the guns felt like toys until you got to the automatic rifles and shotguns.
The cover system is nigh broken. Everything they fucked up in IV they fixed in RDR, though.
GTA V tried to implement Max Payne 3 gunplay mechanics, just very poorly. The toned down gore is inexplicable, really.
>>
>>379635809
Yep. Also they took out wounding which makes absolutely no sense.

>>379634825

You're carrying a peashooter more or less at the beginning. Once you get the Desert Eagle most guys will die in one or two hits.
>>
>>379635887
The character movement in IV feels like a leftover from the older games. It really clashes with the updated engine and environments, and the improved car physics. Essentially everything feels new and revamped, except the movement and gunplay.
The best example of this is trying to aim and shoot through a doorway while taking cover, it's doable, but it's cumbersome as fuck.
>>
>>379624848

Euphoria physics engine was great in IV but no way it can simulate that with 32 people at the same time in the entire map.

But yes, swinging doors were annoying.
>>
>>379630446
Nope. They changed it only so cars wont become undriveable from crashes as quickly.

>16000x16000
Why is that seeming unlikely?

I hope they keep the new VC map small desu. Maybe include some wilderness/swamps but I want the city to be small and compact, yet full of details.

>git gud
There's no git gud in GTA games, they're all piss easy, bar a couple of missions in vice city. And that was due to the driving, not the shitty aiming.
>>
>>379634825
I hope they take out bullet wounds on the player character. Distracting as fuck in cutscenes.

I know in San Andreas there were rogue npc's that would commit crimes (speeding, aggressive driving, shooting etc), but did they exist in GTAIV and GTAV?

nice blog normalfag drone
>>
>>379637129
Well there's a way to get good enough to play it realistically/cinematically, if you're into that.
>>
>>379637607
hahahaha dude weed

>People on /v/ don't smoke

Explains a lot.
>>
>>379638685
Explains what? That people who smoke are still teenagers and some people on /v/ are older?

The sheer amount of buttblast on this board, I guess. I haven't smoked in a year, but I'm still surprised at the amount of tension here, even compared to the other boards. Video games do bring about aggression, I guess.

It's just a meme dude, no reason to get so concerned.
>>
>>379635161
That's in part due to the fact that so many people liked San Andreas.
>>
>>379639489
Seems like it.
>>
>>379639580
People will buy GTA no matter what. Also SA had a good story. V is nothing compared to it, still.
>>
>>379628775
Fucking this.

Anyone who says that it is because it was CPU constricted are fucking retards.
GTAIV was on ps3/360. The thing to take notice of there is the fact that it was on 360 because that had the weakest CPU.
You could easily cram all of that shit into GTAV (and i think they even did cram a bunch into GTAV just some obscure stuff you wouldn't notice)
>>
>>379627216
>that
>small

Looking down on it like that with those shitty graphics and no atmosphere/fog that you would have in real life removes any sense of scale and makes it look even smaller than it is. I'm not saying it's a big as a real city but it's still pretty big, walking from one end of that map to the other would probably take as long as it would to walk across the small town where I grew up.

>>379639375
I'd say it's more along the lines of videogames attract the underage, who want to appear "cool" and unironically take the "/v/ hates everything" meme seriously. Or it's literal, clinical, autism and they can't handle people having opposing views/opinions.
>>
>>379636139
Why did they stick in a massive lake and giant mountains when there is literally nothing to do at them? It's just a waste of space
>>
>>379640698
What is easier to draw?
A vast and beautiful fully detailed city or.... just some blocky mountains and few trees?
