>biggest video game company puts all their resources into making a big ass zelda game with an open world, top notch graphics, great writing, fantastic soundtrack, and wonderful atmosphere that took hours of nonstop work even on holidays
>gets universal acclaim
>few years later some literally who start up vidya company releases a skateboarding game where you skateboard around and do tricks, with some okay graphics also the soundtrack is just a bunch of punk rock songs from some intern's mixtape
>also gets much of the same critical acclaim
>company releases the game 4 times with prettier graphics and tighter controls with each iteration
>all widespread critical acclaim
>the game's also kickstart a subculture in the sports industry with a fuck-huge following that stands even to this day

Why are you talking about OoT? That was 19 years ago. It is also still rated highter than THPS2.

I don't understand what this image is trying to say
Was there a new tony hawk game after thps5
>>379626337
Based on how many critics? Yeah.
>>379627031
Pro Skater 2 is really highly rated on Metacritic
>>379626818
You're missing the point anon, Nintendo worked their asses off for OoT, polishing the game and making it look as good as possiblefor it's time, it was chock full of features that revolutionized the industry forever. Then a few years later some no name dev team makes a skateboarding game that is beyond simple and it get's nearly the same acclaim as OoT did. Also the THPS3 sat snugly in the top 20 until BotW got merely the same score as it, but it still couldn't beat THPS2.
Basically two multi-plat games with extremely simplistic gameplay, run of the mill graphics, made by a start up video game company, and fronted by a retired Skateboarder, sit at the top 20 with some of the greats.
Skateboarding would be dead if it wasn't for the t-mans game
Meanwhile swordfighting is dead even after OoT and it's "perfect" score

Who the fuck is even saying THPS is one of the best games of all time?
>>379628398
it is one of the best games ever made
>>379628398
>implying it's not
Is this really what /v/ has become? At a time when games were getting more and more up their own asses with narrative, graphics, and shoving in as many features as possible THPS yanked everyone by the back of their shirts and reminded everyone why you play video games in the first place. To have some fucking fun. Burnout 3 needed to be that game too when NFS was turning into a ricer simulator.

Dude, it's just a lame skateboarding game.
>>379629162
I'm all for good ol' fun, but this is the first I'm hearing of it being "one of the best games ever". Like come on now. It's a skateboarding game. It's fun. That's it.
I fucking love Shatterhand for NES and think it's true, balls to the wall, punching the shit out of everything fun platforming, but I'm not touting it as the best game ever made.
Underground is objectively better.
contrarian /v/ alert

Are you that autistic Portuguesefag from /sp/?
>>379629328
I was about to jump on you but you're half right, it certainly isn't lame but it is just a skateboarding game, and there in lies the beauty of it. It's so fucking simple, no real story, no real characters, no cutscenes, no tutorial, just a damn good game from beginning to end. Just to be clear I'm not that guy, i don't really regard this as "one of the greats" but I can see why someone would think that.
