I'm not either. But from all the first hand accounts of Japanese players who have played the game, they say its not a typical MMO. That is to say, its not like WoW. The localization cost for a typical RPG is farmed out to a third party like Plus Alpha or 8-4. And done for well under a million dollars. When releasing the game to the west, the development cost is not factored in anymore. Because development is finished. The costs you're referring to are translation, publishing and printing. We're probably not going to ever know the real reason. But the localization team claimed it was 'to make all the music consistent'. Of course this claim sounds bogus, but no one has ever cited Sugiyama as the reason.

Focusing on the orchestrated music is also a flawed argument since we did get the orchestrated music for Dragon Quest VIII on PS2. Why didn't Sugiyama block it then? Did his xenophobia just magically go away between 2004 and 2005 but reemerge in 2015?

It's also a flawed argument because SquareEnix owns the rights to the orchestrated recordings. They don't own the MUSIC, but once Sugiyama recorded the music for the 3DS game, SquareEnix owns the rights to that recording of the music. And can use it in any form they wish.

Honestly, I'm more inclined to believe the localization team decided to make another one of their many changes just for the sake of change. This is the team that changes names and even entire plot points for no logical reason. While you'd think Sugiyama would like his music to be enjoyed by as many people as possible.

Yuji Horii himself said in an interview that he made the PS4 game because he personally wanted Dragon Quest to return to consoles. But he also recognized that a handheld version would sell a lot more. His solution was to make the game on both systems. Which this is not the first time he has done that. He did the same thing for Dragon Quest I-III which appeared on both Super Famicom and Game Boy Color.

You guys need to do your research before you claim shit is true. Just like OP needs to stop claiming he knows it's only coming to a Nintendo system when nothing has even been announced.

The soundtrack is actually bad as well. The songs keep getting repeated as well so there can't be many. "Exploring song", "village day time song", "village night", "sad song" (actually so bad I mute it), "happy song" etc.
