Future Switchbro here. I've seen a lot of BotW and I really have to ask if the shrines ever got any better than the beginning. I watched a lot of gameplay on twitch and they always seemed boring in both mechanics and aesthetics. Ive heard the same about the beast dungeons. I don't care about journalists, and I don't normally like 3D Zelda, and I personally really like BotW. The game reminds me a ton of Zelda 1 and there's virtually no railroading compared to other 3D games. I think the act of just getting from point A to point B and finding little things like shrines and seeds on the way is fun.
I don't play a lot of open world games though so take my opinion with a grain of salt, I'm only comparing it to other Zeldas and not other open world games.

The mountains between the desert and the city? Pointless except for the military basis. The desert? Basically completely pointless, can't interact with anything, nothing interesting to be seen. The forest in the north? Pointless again. Nothing weird, special, interesting at all and it's not realistic enough to justify this. GTA San Andreas was 15 years ago, but not GTA V. Honestly, Uncharted has never been my cup of tea. I played the first and second ones on PS3, and never found the will to finish either of them.

The story was pretty alright, and I have to say the voice acting was superb, but I found the gameplay extremely bland and it just couldn't keep me interested.

But I say this as someone who loves the fuck out of turn-based JRPGs and MMOs, which a lot of people would feel are bland as fuck, so it might just be my preferences.
