greatsword is the least skill-based weapon out there. other weapons have to stay active and be at risk at all times to hit the monster. GS only needs to be at risk once in a while and hit the monster once in a while to do the same amount of damage or more. muh positioning is a meme. it's not hard at all to move into position.

I played this way for 3/4U GS and it was fine, but seeing all the different armor skills and elemental weapons made me try branching out. I now have full sets of elemental lances, status sns, and several gs sets for different swords. Been a lot of fun mixing it up.

I only ever play sword and shield.
I love to use items a lot so it works well.

It didn't feel as clunky, that's the main thing I liked about it. When I tried it in P3rd I wanted to kill myself, if you're not abusing the auto-guard glitch there's literally nothing the lance doesn't do better. Sometimes if you're playing it with the evasion skill and you need to dodge, your character will not fucking move because the mongoloids at capcom decided that this weapon didn't need the extra mobility so for aboslutely no reason it has forced immobility out the ass. You better dodge immediately after hitting the enemy or you're toast.

Did anyone here get into the franchise without really knowing what it was? I just saw the Capcom logo on the box and thought it was a hunting simulator or some shit, sneaking around the foliage and laying traps.

I remember running into Barroth and thinking to myself "so is it just me or is this like the hardest boss in existence?" Checked out a thread after I beat it to find out how you were really supposed to do it, what its weakness was. No weakness, just rape. And apparently it wasn't even mid-tier in difficulty.

If you use Guild style, axe actually is better than it's ever been. They added a finishing spin attack move if you press R during the hack-and-slash infinite that does a ridiculous amount of damage (MV is about on par with a full charge GS super slash).

It's really, really easy to roll into immediate uppercut into one hit of hack and slash into the spin attack. And that covers so much range you can't miss practically.

Only in certain versions of MH because the further you go, the more fucked up the weapon trees get and the shittier the HBG's are until you get to late game HR / G-Rank / What the fuck events.

They -think- giving adept style to HBG makes up for this, but it doesnt and the weapons are all REALLY FUCKING TERRIBLE for a while. LBG's the real easy mode.

Some skill in reading wikis. The only real problem with LBG is that elemental weaknesses need to be greatly exploited, and ammo is greatly limited. After LR/Back half of HR, you're better off abandoning ship to SnS for elemental shenanigans or HBG if you wanna stay ranged.
