The revenge shit only comes in like half way through. It's in the secret bunker under the steelworks is where you first learn that someone sent the V junkies to your house. Maybe Max is taking revenge on the entire mob for the death of his partner, but we hardly even meet him before he's dead

People say Max Payne is a game about revenge, but I think the idea is that he just snapped and started killing all the bad guys he had been involved with.
