I played this a bit in arcades in Moonland last year and it seemed fun, very similar to the previous games in terms of combat except with the whole 3-character thing that I'm personally not a massive fan of. My main issue is if it lacks the single player content and the items/builds system that made the series interesting. If it's just a fighting game I probably won't get it.

The arcade version has an arcade... mode, which tells a basic story with character intros/dialogue based on the main you choose and those that your partners choose, but there's no like full on story mode, since it's an arcade title, the main draw is the online play. I'd say they'd be fools to not include some sort of story mode in the PS4 release though, it wouldn't surprise me if they did, look at tekken.

The MMOs really still play out exactly like an MMO. Heavily level gated content that is achieved mostly through grinding for hours at a time and feels very dissonant in many cases as half the storyline comes through talking with NPCs as you do fetch-quests and walk-abouts in cities.
FFXI was not an easy pill to swallow.
And FFXIV is 90% unfun filler.
If you add to that most of FFXI and FFXIV makes you a literally who while at the same time still being a ch00san wan, while constantly focusing on different main characters that get switched over per expansion, it's not rare people lose track.
Specially when they choose character like Shantotto and Y'Shtola who, again, literally who side characters that aren't even the main characters of the storyline of the MMOs in order to represent the games outside of the actual MMOs.

It's surprising. Because she only shows up actively as of the expansion.
Before it she shows up in the Titan quest and by the very end of the quest. To then "die" for the first time and be off-screen until the expansion.

There's far more on-screen characters than her, most of all Alphineaud who is the ACTUAL main character of the game.
So yes, she's there for the waifu bait and because japs eat Mi'qote for breakfast.
But as a "why do people not know about the storyline?????" point, she's about as relevant as the old original FFXIV cast, really.

So you haven't actually played FF14, in other words.

There is zero(0) grinding in FF14 unless you insist on leveling up multiple jobs, which is entirely unnecessary. The story levels you up automatically as you go. The story is told through cutscenes, fully voice acted in many cases, not through fetch quests or whatever you mean by "walkabouts". There are some sluggish tutorials and fetch quests in the early parts of the game, but less and less so, and by the time the first expansion came out, all "filler" was eliminated and the story has been extremely focused and engaging ever since.

lancer/dragoon is straight up one of the shittiest classes to level, i wont deny that. its borderline 1-2 buttons till like lv 34 or something, and it only starts REALLY getting fun around 50 or so. Lancer is known as the most boring class to play until you get your Dragoon abilities and can start jumping. Mostly due to some severe design fuckups on Square Enix's end, such as not giving you any complete combos until near max level, leaving you to spam the same moves over and over.

I've never bothered leveling it for this reason, but if you had just reached Dragoon you probably didn't have far left to go.

My biggest issue with levelling LNC was I only had one (i think?) AoE ability that did such little damage it was just as quick to single target DPS individual mobs down in a pack. I can't remember what level you get the DRG quest at, either 30 or 40? Yeah the gameplay was just rotating the same 3-4 abilities pretty much forever with a couple of cooldowns.
