I got help for 3 things:
1. Getting in the temple originally. Wasn't quite sure what all I was looking at originally.
2. MSX rom combinations. Fuck trying to figure out what they all are by brute force and even more fuck trying to figure out what they actually did.
3. The infinite corridor passing through the gates in the correct order. My brother told me the right answer because apparently it glitches out sometimes making you think you're doing it wrong even when you have the right answer.

That's it. The rest of the game I pride myself on the fact that I got through it just by keeping a detailed notebook and solving puzzles the old fashion way my Mom did back in the days of Myst.

I never finished the remake. I know it's a better game and I liked the bosses a lot more for the most part, but I just lost motivation after spending a little over 100 hours beating the original game. Sad to hear they changed Mother too. I liked the phase where you had to destroy the parts in order because it was a nice nod to having to use all that puzzle solving to actually kill a phase of the final boss.

Only thing I looked up was how to get into Hell Temple.
A friend of mine told me it was a thing a couple days after I beat the game so I went back to search for it.
Gave up after maybe 2 or 3 hours and just looked it up, seeing what you had to do I didn't regret it either.
I never would have found it on my own.

The rest of the game is totally doable without a guide though.
I think the most annoying part for me was figuring out how collecting the mantras at the end worked. I definitely spent way too long running around without a clue on that.

After that, go to temple of the sun, use the bottom entrance to go down to the chamber of extinction. Walk forward, go down, walk forward again, then jump and swing a couple times. Go back to temple of the sun through where you just came from, a panel should open giving you access to all the pots, break all the pots to get an item.

Designing the enemies or placing the traps/gimmicks are more like solving a complicated puzzle rather than something creative, at least for me.

So, the painting tasks, in particular, are usually taken care of during my break time or the in the waiting time for rendering. There is still quite an amount left, but it won't make me weary, it's more refreshing to do this enjoyable task.

These days, almost every game's characters are made in 3D, and there is even technology to segmentalize 2D images into bits and add animation to each part. I honestly don't like that tech since they just look like they keep dancing restlessly. I prefer to see clear movement, moving when it needs to move, and stop when it needs to stop.

Anyway, once I'm done with the rough painting, I move on to the drafts of the several animation patterns for eyes and mouth as you can see in the pic. Important characters like Mulbruk have some special animations, but most of the others only will only be standing. There are still eye blinking and mouth movements for all of them though.

This game makes me angry and it's been a while since i actually got angry at a videogame.
I love it but i hate it.

I started using a guide in the Giants are because INVISIBLE DAIS. After that, everything fell to pieces. Used a gun in Elmac, watched a Youtube video to learn how to kill Vyi melee because i didn't have money for 100 shurikens, used a guide to reach Eden, downloaded maps, guide for hitting some background valve that leads to water skate boss, stand under thoth, Black and white witches and more. I was proud of beating Zu withouth the lamp but even after that i got lost again and now i'm in fucking Eden trying to figure how to use the mini-doll.

The worst part is that i got a new videogame and i know that when i go back to La-Mulana i'm going to get my ass handed to me. Lemeza controls like ASS, i'm not looking foward to returning.

I personally found the game not too difficult once I understood how shit worked.

People keep saying Hell Temple was hard. I absolutely disagree. I remember getting through hell temple without much issue at all.

The whole getting IN to hell temple though? That was complete and utter bullshit. It's the only place I used a guide and I have absolutely 0 regrets about doing so. That was such an awfully cryptic series of events that I don't know what the fuck they were thinking.

La-Mulana's puzzles in general though are excellent. They give you more than enough hints and even the ones that are a bit lacking on hints still can be solved with a little trial and error and running around.

For real though, I found Chamber of Birth to be more of puzzle hell than hell itself.

If the game isn't made well enough to justify that effort then it isn't the player's problem, it's the game not have an interesting enough mechanic or not being well balanced enough. You absolutely have a point if this is true, however it isn't for La Mulana. The controls are deliberately designed to ellicit a specific set of behaviors and responses from the player, you'll have no trouble if you adapt.
