>>
>>379554379
If I had to guess it's because you were just following the waypoints on the minimap most of the time. Waypoints are cancer for this very reason, following a dot on a map like a zombie just kills any sense of exploration.

Vikings barely made any of those, but they sure did rule a lot of them. Especially in medieval Russia. Many Viking nobles were invited to rule serfdoms to city states such as Novgorod.

That's a powerful argument.
>>
>>379561181

>>
>>379553105
Yes. I'm hoping that CDPR is able to expand upon cities like Novigrad in Cyberpunk. Larger, filled with more things to do, interconnected by highways but shit to explore below those highways.
>>
>>379561217
go play more rpgs baby-kun
>>
>>379561389

>still cant name something better
>>
>>379561286
To be quite fair historians don't even use the barbarian description often, but most contemporary historians referred to those people as barbaric, since they are obscure and all what we know about them is from foreign accounts and observers and they don't have any major works of architecture left nor had any form of record keeping.

tldr; two important signs of civilizations; record keeping and architecture.
>>
>>379560624
As with a lot of the barbarians, they realized the advantages of having a civic and functioning civilization. The Vikings adapted, and built their own society in time. That and the countless thrones their asses have sat upon in Europe.
>>
>>379561378
Cyberpunk is all city. I'd love it if they focused more on verticality with tall building and shit
>>
>>379561535

You still don't know what the word barbarian means.
>>
>>379561621
>All city
You think it's going to be one giant city? Or do you mean no areas to explore aside from cities?
>>
>>379561574
When you've built a civic and functioning society, you're no longer a barbarian. Those who are barbarians cannot do that by definition.
>>
>>379561701

What kind of retarded thinking is that?

You are talking about a group of people that capable of self improvement aren't you? Almost all barbarian groups progressed to civil states, from the Israelite's to the Celts/Anglo-Saxons/Gaelics of the Britain who built the biggest Empire in history.

Without the guarantee of consolefags lapping up a release a developer would actually have to try to appeal to a PC player. Without consoles, video games wouldn't even have half the budget they do now. The only reason we got Witcher 3 is because of consoles, the only reason you're getting BOTW and Arms and Nintendo shit is because of consoles.

Without consoles, video games would literally all be 4X strategy games and games on the same technical and budget level as Risen 3. Don't pretend that without the huge revenue that the masses provide, the industry would somehow enter a some golden age with amazing realistic graphics etc. The only reason why some of these games are even made are due to the company being able to bank on the sales of consoles to make a return on the initial investment.

yeah i'll wait in line behind the 15 other people who had the same brilliant idea

It used to be you'd wait 1 hour during busy times and you'd get your shit done. My permit and license shit took 45-60 minutes each. You'd walk up to the counter once you were called, give them your information and shit, then pay and be transferred over to the pic booth and wait another 10 or so minutes for your picture to be taken

Now, you wait an hour for your number to be called, give them your information, sit down, wait another hour, get your picture taken, sit down, wait another hour, pay, then finally leave

Even the employees there fucking hated the system. The gov't put the focus on servicing as many people as possible but by doing so they basically shot themselves in the fucking foot by not giving the employees any time to actually process the information. The gov't here fucked it big time

I like Novigrad, but the first time you get there with everything leading up to finding Dandelion and even some of the stuff after that is just such a boring slog it's become "that part" of the game for me. I've been replaying the game for the third time and it almost makes me want to just stop. It's more to do with the quests than the city itself though.

For me it certainly is. Always wanted to experience a real medieval city in a video game, not just a small village or some pre-rendered backgrounds (as in Lindblum).

As a city i probably like Liberty City in GTA4 more, but you just have to give huge respect to CDPR for incorporating the city so well into the landscape.

Yes, and unlike Shitgrad it has actual npc's instead of static one-liner generators and generic merchants.

You can have actual conversations with NPC's in Oblivion, even guards. Witcher 3 doesn't have this, instead everyone you talk to you can only do so they can shit out quests, or deliver one-liners as you pass by like le funny drunk man XD

Nigger you're off the charts.
The couple of lines they throw at random NPCs like guards, to satisfy fags like you these days, hardly count as "actual conversations"

TW3 did it right, by realizing that you simply have nothing to talk to with random peasants, unless they actually have something interesting to say, meaning some quest relevance. Not to mention that the amount of people in TW3 are about a hundred times the numbers of TES games making the "actual conversations" limited to quest givers still more than in any TES.

So you didn't play it, good to know. Oblivion doesn't have a Cloud District dumbass, that's Skyrim. Get your games right

Witcher 3 did it right by making every NPC a quest dispenser with zero depth to them and no means of finding out what kind of person they were because they were static shits with the same routine and otherwise appeared only once in those little ? map markers for you to chase. I can't remember a single NPC from Witcher 3 that wasn't quest related or part of the main story.
>>

Edoras wasn't even the best city in the book.

nigger please. cloud district is just an example of how TES handles NPCs.
Also the rest of your comment is nonsense. Saying they have zero depth to them is absolutely ridiculous. As is the claim that theres no means of finding out what kind of person they are, since most sidequests are literally about the people involved.

I'm sorry to give you this reality check but in 2017, people simply don't care anymore about NPCs who have a couple of throwaway lines for your "CYOA" entertainment, mixed with "oh look, he's reading this book!" bullshit.
Everybody knows that the NPCs in TES are the worst and most forgettable example of NPCS in modern gaming. Literally peasants that don't have a single line are more memorable in TW3 than quest related NPCs are in TES games.
And every other NPC that even has a single line shits all over the shitty TES structure.
Like that couple that complains about you storming in and throwing the door open, everytime you enter their house.

TES NPCs don't even seem like real people. Its like you're in a creepy amusement park with animatronics lmao.

I wasn't talking about TES, I was talking about Oblivion, in which every NPC has more routine and depth to them than every NPC in Witcher 3 combined. Most sidequests in Witcher 3 devolve to chasing red floating lines around the map while mumbling to yourself like an autist, or generic "events" in the form of question marks where absolutely nothing changes.

http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:City-Swimmer

An example of just 1 NPC in Oblivion who already has more to them than any of the one-liner delivery services in Novigrad or Oxenfurt. Go on, name a few memorable Witcher 3 NPC's who aren't related to the main quest in any way.

Do you have any reading comprehension at all? Look at my first comment. Nobody cares about random NPCs that are forgettable. Thats the whole point. Nothing TES does makes those NPCs better in any way. A normal peasant thats simply walking to the fields in the morning and to the tavern in the evening in TW3 is a much better example of NPCs done right that those literal handful of NPCs with "routine" and """"character""" that you can count with two hands in TES.
TW3 NPCs have the effort of being life like enough in routine and appereance that the game can focus on stories for quests, rather than feeling the need to enhance those shitty animatronics in TES with shitty routines and ""backstories" nobody cares about, since they have no relevance whatsoever.

Except those quests aren't stories are they? Half of them involve reading a note then opening a chest two feet away with underpowered loot or chasing a reskinned Basilisk to a "den". You still haven't provided an example of an actual named NPC in any of those cities, because the reality is that they're all there to provide services or spout shit as you walk past them. You can't learn anything more about them because they only exist to make the city feel bigger.

You can spawn a fucking NPC in Oblivion via console who can only say "rumours" and they still have more to them than the Witcher 3 NPC's in Novigrad. Witcher 3 NPC's are "lifelike" by repeating the same lines every time you travel to their location and having the same face mesh?
