Stop heading to Primm if it feels samey and you've no choices. Head east, there's a canyon through mountains you can use as a shortcut. Hell, you could sneak north past the Death Claws and be in New Vegas in no time.

I wish Primm has more story in it. The building wreckage off to the side while everyone was cooped up in the casino made for way too little content in too large of an area. The housing wasn't fu to explore and the Bison Steve was just a cluster of enemies to blow through before Beagle dies on the way out by sneezing too hard. I almost felt bad for letting the NCR take over that shithole and taxing the hell out of them. Almost.

Install CCO (cirosans classic overhaul). It's a relatively unknown mod I discovered by chance and in my opinion it's better than the jsawyer mod though it changes more things. It adds new perks and traits, adds DR, charisma determines how many companions you can have at the same time to a maximum of 5, rebalances how stats and skills work to make them be more like in the classic fallouts, rebalances vats, etc. Pretty good unkonwn mod. It comes with a fomod so you can install the module you want (for example if you only want the new perks) without problems using your mod manager.

I'm currently playing through someguys's quest mods and they're pretty good. The voice acting is hit or miss, but the important characters are good at least.

Alright /v/, I'm gonna do a new playthrough completely different from any I've done before. What are some mods to get to improve this playthrough? Not asking for general mods like Jsawyer or lighting mods.

Depends entirely on what other mods you have installed. JSawyer is pretty holistic, but most mods won't touch the same stuff it does. Ultimate is compatible with PN, for instance, once you disable all the redundant features.

Fallout 4 is a great example of almost nothing in a video game coming out good. Unless they scrap literally everything and start from scratch, Fallout 5 will be trash. Maybe keep the power armor mechanics and different damage types, but nuke everything else.

I've tried playing this twice but failed both times. I've never played a game in this category so I always get fucked. I always bloat the items I carry because I feel the need to pick everything up, I feel like I don't upgrade the shit I should upgrade, I feel like I'm way weaker than every single enemy in the game, I start carrying shit I don't need, then I get frustrated and quit.

Help me, a fallout noob literally get good at new vegas. Because what I have played is great. I love the fact I can play it the way I want which is a lone wolf, smart talking, firearms expert.

How to DM at level 1? For one of your first 3 skills that you dump some points into make Melee one of them. The other two whatever. As mentioned cut across to the Hidden valley, skirt north between black mount and the road with deathclaws to then head straight east to the Abandoned Bunker. Do speak to anyone or even try to attack or kill anything.

Once at the Sierra Madre take a Knife Spear off of a Ghost person. From here, literally every single bad guy I killed was with a Ghost spear, which for my run through included only the Ghost People and God/Dog. Killing them was relatively easy too I found, implying they must scale.

As for the other endings, Dean Domino is easy to NOT kill as you have no high barter/speech/repair etc to beat him in speech checks. The way to not kill him is of course to not pass any speech checks so being low level for that outcome is fine.

Dog/God is the only one you can't finish the peaceful ending with as you need the high speech check. I had wack him to death.

Father Elijah I just went and found the Sentry Passcodes on the ground in the room before and activated them, thus negating any need to fire a weapon at him.

The great thing about a level 1 Melee focused run through is that you'll keep every bit of ammo you find. As you get to the end you'll also find you have heaps of spare room for the gold.

Having just 35-40 in Melee also helps for OWB as well. For the most part you can cheese Big MT with just a Proton Axe.

It's a good way to shake up the NV experience i find too.

I did a playthrough with it once. I like the perks, what it does to VATs and the whole FO2 aesthetic is cool but it makes the game feel even easier than vanilla.

Also having more than one companion completely breaks the game even with their damage nerfed, I was able to take out that BoS squad at the end of Veronica's quest at level 5.

I dislike how mazelike the Villa was. It was likely by design to create a cramped and uncomfortable area to challenge the player, but it just didn't seem very realistic. The styling was nice but the vast majority of the Villa was just wall. I understand that due to engine limitations realistically recreating something of that size isn't really feasible, but maybe there could have been another way they laid it all out. As for the casino itself, I didn't have too much of a qualm with that. I was interesting enough but it was a lot more damaged by the war than I had anticipated. The whole time Elijah was talking it up like it was essentially something of a bunker, but it was still damaged and scorched on the inside. I'm not really sure what did it, but the actual portion inside the casino sure did leave a bitter taste in my mouth as far as the whole DLC went. Only wrapping it all up with the vault mended my discontent.

Assuming you're playing not on hardcore
Special
Basically PER and CHA are your dumpstats, regardless of your build. Your build is more defined by your skills. At the start of the game tag Speech (unless you are role playing it is always good to tag this), lockpick (ditto, much better than science), and because of your to guns (though you need a combat skill). For your traits take good natured and (if you have OWB) skilled.

Don't be afraid to sell anything, weightless items like ammo included. Good rule of thumb is to carry
-1 versatile ranged weapon with common ammo for use vs trash mobs
-your strongest Melee or unarmed weapon (never carry 2:give to companion or sell asap)
-1 precision range weapon
-1 auto ranged weapon for CC
-1-2 superweapons for emergencies
-some nades

Only carry 1 piece of armor for combat, carry the others for skill/special increase. For the latter only hold the ones that give net +5 skills

Never carry much misc items: workbenches are overrated and overly complex in this game

A few tips
-purge weight CONSTANTLY
Vendors restock every 3 days give or take
-Sleep whenever you can
On normal sleep heals and uncripples. After combat there's nothing stopping you from tping home instantly to heal and tping back
-manage your aid
Unless it both gives back at least 10hp total and heals at a rate faster than 1/s or has an attatched bonus it's not worth carrying or eating. Drinks and Chema are the superior aid item except for those who get survival above maybe 50

Charisma yeah. Definitely not perception. If you really want to be railroaded, put it at 5 + 1 with the implant to get the Better Criticals perk and/or Sniper.

Skilled is also pretty garbage in New Vegas. You can get more than enough skill points to max out crucial skills (and you can get pretty damn close to maxing everything out) with a decent intelligence (6-7) WITHOUT skill books. Get Small Frame or Fast Shot / Trigger Discipline instead.

On normal the main threat to your person is being crippled, so small frame is underwhelming. With enemies level scaling, skilled is just godly (especially combined with good natured)
