Why games with bittersweet endings are so uncommon?

They aren't
>>379526964
Because bittersweet endings are interesting to observe and more sad to experience.
Plus a ton of games are built as an immersive power fantasy.
Sad endings suck for something you've worked towards.
But can work effectively like Nier Automata and stuff.

Guy suffer for 100000000000000000 years until reach the end of universe and obtain the gift of reseting the universe to give the girl he loved a chance to experience a normal life in his place in the new universe.

God damn that comic is retarded
>>379529575
Because the protag who is a robot got tricked into travelling through space until the heat-death of the universe, where he meets the primal forces of chaos and harmony and is offered a chance to create a whole new universe in whatever way he wanted. Because the girl he was in love with is actually an aspect of harmony and destined to bring about the apocalypse when she meets the protag, the only way to prevent the apocalypse from happening all over again is to create a universe without her. Because protag finds this is unfair, he instead creates a new universe without him, because the girl on her own cannot make the apocalypse happen without him also being present.

Whatever, dork.

I am quite fond of The New Order, for doing bittersweet right. Just the right level of foreshadowing and player-directed contextualization (if you collect the girls journals) that it didn't come off ridiculous.
