I've been thinking about which character to play. I thought of playing Dizzy then I thought why bother learning all these complex setups when I can just play Jam and spam kicks. It reminded me of that old Street Fighter 4 picture where the gen is doing all these complex inputs and all the Fei Long is doing is a rekka.

I think this game eats inputs. Doing IAD with the exact same inputs every time and it decides to double jump. Then when it succeeds on that it decides to not do air tatami at all, just an air K. I've seen my inputs, literally nothing is different from how I do them normally, yet trying to do them all together is just impossible. And then it wants another immediate IAD into air D which always never manages to come out in full when its done too fast, D just gets lost somewhere. But when I do it slower opponent recovers out of the combo.

Now I'm rapidly losing my drive for learning.

The inputs are literally the same though and I mean it. I'm doing them all together after memorizing the recovery time on her parry+S so I'll know when to start the IAD and when I fail it I go check on the sample. Its literally the same.

Not sure what you're saying. Rev2 is not its own game, it's DLC for Revelator. There is a package deal with Revelator and Rev2 on Steam. PS4 got a standalone physical version though.

I was actually a retard about the IAD. It was a tiger knee IAD and the rest of the combo was spacing specific, meaning I wasn't supposed to walk forward even a pixel before doing the parry+S.

Last combo trial done, Baiken is finally finished, now I can go search for better combos. Bitching at /v/ always helps me figure out stuff.

Been playing Ky recently, still not good but doing mission mode is helping me a lot. Still can't do a combo for shit since I always panic, but I feel like I am slowly improving and controlling space using fireballs is fun.

As a person brand new to guilty gear and pretty much fighting games in general, how time consuming would it be to go from absolute shit that gets perfect'd every time he plays to can kind of put up a fight and maybe take a round before he gets destroyed, with Johnny? He seems really cool to me, but I feel like he'd be a fuckload harder to git gud with than a more straightforward character.

If you really want to play Johnny I don't think he'd be bad to learn with, but you're right that it's going to be a much steeper hill than if you were to just play Ky or Leo or some shit. He'll teach you footsies and the necessity of tight offensive pressure, and you'll be forced to actually learn the defensive mechanics (FD/IB/Blitz/Backdashing) because he gets fucked hard if he's not the one getting the party started. Mist cancelling should be the first thing you try to drill into muscle memory.

Guilty Gear honestly has the best tutorials of any fighting game. Through a series of mini games and trials, you learn everything from basic movements to super technical combos. GG takes good execution skills, but it guides you really well

Just throw spikes and randomly dive/score a knockdown. Then just win.

Knockdown > ball > mixup > Knockdown > ball > mixup

He is literally the most braindead easiest character to play.

Rev 2 (Rev with the expansion is the newest). I feel like it's currently the most "oldschool" of the new fighting games in that it values complexity and completely steamrolling the other player over handholding too much. It's way more robust in single player than older fighters used to be, but I recommend nobody gets a fighter unless they want to play with others.

You can play with a DS4, don't get a stick unless you want to get very serious.

keep playing against higher level being self aware of where you messed up to get blown up. If there is one thing you can spot and say "that keeps fucking me" then playing around with that in training mode until you find a good response or answer.
