Every game should have either permadeath/level restart/limited lives for action games and permanent stat penalty for RPG games. Modern vidya really suffers from "who gives a fuck I'm going to respawn 2 feet back anyway" syndrome. There's no tension to death, no stakes, no incentive to git gud.
