The NSMB aesthetic had worn thin with the second game and was practically despised by the time NSMBU came along.

First year seems to be pretty solidly booked. I think they'll announce a new one at E3 2018 and it'll get the end of November holiday slot that Odyssey gets this year.

If only the soundtrack wasn't so shit. I wish the same team that makes the 3D Mario soundtrack worked on NSMB.

Would love if they made more in the style of New Luigi U. Challenging but also a smaller sized type game with a lower price point. Seems like a better trade off with the 2D format nowadays.

We don't need it. NSMB ruined Mario and affected all of the branches of the IP. I'm all for another 2D Mario, so long as it isn't NSMB or influenced by it. It's probably asking too much for a Mania-styled game, and Maker didn't touch any of my hopes or interests in a 2D Mario.
