You need to assign animals to the area once you have set it up.

It's kind of a pain, because every time a new animal is added to the roster, you need to manually add it to your animal zone.

i realize the game is still in alpha but:
1. no way to deter bug spawns. the ability to create a chemical repellant either sythetic or organic or both would be nice.
2. raider AI is shit. at least the AI when a siege happens it. example: only three spots to spawn on the map two i have covered by three turrets each and two rows of caltrops each. when they walked down the side of the map to set up they walked right in the range of my turrets and didn't acknowledge they were losing people until so many died. then they just fucking charged the turrets, got slowed by the caltrops and massacred right there.
3. i can advance my colony so my colonists can build a spaceship but not simple carts and wagons to harness up to animals? jesus.
4. the drug system needs some work. they only take a drug on prescription if they're joy or mood is below whatever you set. i need my crafters to take wake-up when their rest gets to around 20.

It adds a fuckload of new foods to make that are dependent on different values and skill levels.

A fair amount of it is just fluff and options for variety, but you can make cheese and other shit to make higher quality meals that enhance body stats for a while.
Can make porridge from wheat and rice, bread for burgers and such, make slightly better quality vegetable-only alternatives to simple meals, etc.

Really great for Tribal when you just want to use all that damn meat before it spoils.

raider bases are shit to raid. a building filled with meals and one with a barracks. not sure about other factions. not worth the effort or resources imo.

spice it up by prescribing your colonist drugs, set every ones tasks to 3 and hit fast forward.

or you could build a prison. build an annex to the prison with one bed. which every prisoner gets that bed you torture them. you send one or more of your colonist in to beat the shit out of them. don't kill them. just bruise them up and don't heal them or feed them. then when starvation sets in beat the shit outa' them again then feed them. add low damage weapons to change it up and maybe they'll get some limbs cut off or eyes cut out. get creative.

what are improvised turrets and caltrops. set up a kill zone at key points around your colony. the caltrop rows will slow the raiders down as well as damage them a bit (maybe) the turrets hit from a distance and you use you colonists as you need. mine were all medieval armored ranged gunners sporting guns from rimfire and project fallout.

if the raiders did manage to get passed that ( often in the beginning, hardly at all later on) they were dispatched a little easyier being that they were usually injured.

i never played to build the ship or get to it via caravan or pods. i liked building the base and "evolving" it and the colonists. send them to battle and hoped they got limbs cut off ect. so i could create bionic warriors. fun as fuck. and they are all clad in medieval armor and guns from rimfire and projects fallout. those were good times.

the same tactics. duh. they were even easier than the medieval faction raiders because they had no armor. my guns took them down easy. it was satisfying to watch unfold. mechanoids gave me some trouble though. scythers had the range that only a couple of my colonists had so i had to run out with them and take them out at closer range. then reposition back at the sandbags and turrets while i waited for the slugs to finally get there. sometimes the slugs would spit up and i would turn my turrets off so they don't trigger the slugs to fire. hunt down the lone slug. let the other slugs move around and attack as i needed.

Game does looks like PA but just on art, is a game where you play as some guys who survived a ship getting destroyed, and fall on a planet that have a few factions with barely any advanced tech, you have to make sure your people survive, and mid game, make sure they are happy with everything they do, you also get people over time or recruit from slaves you captured from failed raids.

I generally just ended up imprisoning people in a 6 person room and practice medicine on all but one guy that I wanted to recruit, having him watch his mates slowly get butchered as their feet got replaced, then their legs, then their arms, then their jaw and if they lived through that they'd get their organs harvested. The dumbest thing there is the "guilty prisoner" system, where you can get away with all of that shit while a prisoner is guilty with no real repercussions, so you'd just queue up surgeries and euthanize right before the guilty timer expired.

The star vampires are annoying, yes. Especially since they're really fast, and when you hear the laugh you basically have to deploy everyone and hug them really really fast, either someone dies. EVEN THEN it's not assured. Ironically i had a easier time at the beginning; now i'm risking a lot of friendly fire.
I put cyborg legs on my medics exclusively to deal with star vampire bites and blood loss.

The Chtonians hole is not really a problem. I keep 3-4 prisoners around all the times, for quick sacrifices incase i need some materials and i'm short (thank you Dagon), or for shit and giggles.
Chtonians also are quite slow (compared to others), so it can be kited very, very carefully.

Deep ones raids, on the other hand... fuck those guys.

A17 made sappers smarter so you can't just use a psychic shock lance or whatever on the one guy with grenades any more to force the sappers into your killbox since someone else will start mining instead. Probably best to just spread out your defenses now or build into a mountain or valley.
