Possibly. Every zone had a different theme but it felt perfect, mulgore was sprawling plains but it felt epic and not boring etc.

I never played EQ when it was new but I imagien that was really comfy with friends/guild

Barrens truly stood out among all the WoW zones. It was endless horizon, full of adventures to find during the day. It was cool and soothing plain at night. It was a big fun party 24/7 in the chat. And everyone went through it. Whether you were a noob learning the game or an high level going to new your zones of questing, you'd always be going through Barrens. And to think Blizzard only gave this epitome of MMO experience to one faction.
