I don't think anyone knows for sure but a common theory is the game will have a theme of worlds colliding with each other (so in this case it's ice in a desert), another theory is that the game is about magic (hence those rabbit bosses, (magician's) hat theme, etc. - some even theorized that hats are a source of magic in this game, which is why every character is seen wearing one.

>have to look around the level more thoroughly for ways to get around next time because warps are hidden

One makes A FUCKING MARIO GAME easier, one adds a reason to get out and explore the levels in depth.

Good thing secret levels are always a challenge otherwise I would have little reason to get this game outside of exploration.
