Anyone else STILL on the fence about ARMS?

On one hand, it's a good and fun game. On the other hand I still can't shake off the feeling that it's not complex and deep enough to last me more than a month. And for a fully priced title I'd really want to be certain I get more out of it than a few hours.

I just feel like ranked play will eventually come down to jump dodge central because it is so much easier to punish someone else for throwing arms and making a mistake.
Played six testpunches and did well in all of them but I hated all modes other than 1v1 so that doesn't really help.

Believe me, this game is way more complex and deep than smash4 and I believe that you wouldn't be able to unlock ranked mode without understanding how half of the mechanics works

Playing the demo with another friend in the room is what sold me on the game. Had a blast playing 2v2 with a buddy, and I know that it'll probably become the go-to party game for me and my homies for a while.

The promise that there will be free post-launch DLC ala Splatoon also makes me feel a little more at ease about the decision.

People wanted it to be so hyped it up based on very little, doesn't mean the game won't be fun for some time but don't expect too much.

The have quite a few balancing to do, especially on 1v1v1, because in the testfire it became evident that the best strategy is to not fight at all, just keep running away and wait for the other 2 to go after each other, then finish off the remaining player.

My point is that towards the later testpunches amongst people who were good at the game I could already tell that the "meta" was heavily leaning towards moving, dodging and jumping a LOT. With much less attacking. Because whoever goes on the offensive first puts himself at a pretty high risk.

That's wrong in fact unless you are throwing both of your punches, jumping is way less effective than staying on ground because you lose a lot of speed
Tbh I think that the meta will lean towards putting pressure onto your opponent with as much charged punches as possible, but it's too early to say so.
You really can't predict the meta of a game that isn't even out yet and that will have a lot of major free updates

The switch itself is fine, save for that fucking bottom charging port which is nonsensically inconvenient. The controllers and docking station however are pretty shitty all around. Especially considering their prices.

Look at their inevitable console shortage bullshit. Thats what I mean by hype. As far as nostalgia goes, no other company has gotten away with reskinning franchises as much as Nintendo. Pokémon and Mario Kart are huge for them, but you could fire up any of the previous titles and have the same experience save for graphics. Anon here isn't wrong. Switchfags got angry with the recent Pokemon direct because it turned out they bought the Switch on a hope and a prayer, instead of for what was out at the time. If a game isn't going to be worth your purchase right then and there, don't fucking buy it. Never buy anything on the promise it will be worth it later. You're not investing, you're trying to find some entertainment.

What's been interesting to notice is the pendulum swings between single player and multi player heavy trends over the last decade. We went from multiplayer needing to be shoved into everything because "why should a full price game only have a single player, it's just not worth it, the single player will get old, multiplayer means endless content with fresh interactions" to "why should a full price game only have multiplayer, it's just not worth it, who knows if the multiplayer will last, single player means that content will be around forever" as consumers and companies try to chase what they thing they will be enjoying in the future with the game instead of now. Nintendo itself is heavily leaning on the multiplayer for it's mid-2017 Switch content, bringing over both Mario Kart and Pokken ports along with Arms and Splatoon 2 coming in between the big singleplayer Zelda and Mario. And none of them have super impressive Singleplayers, though Splatoon had a decent, if fairly small, campaign and the sequel does look to expand on it from fanfeed back, Titanfall 2 style.

I feel like if more people actually bought what they knew they would enjoy right then, instead of buying what they're imagining they're going to get later, things might have worked out differently.

What anon should do is just wait. If they still feel ambivalent, why commit? There's no particular reason they need to buy in now. They can see if ARMS really has the longevity they want from it and how the meta really develops, then they can make a more informed decision.

I don't disagree, it was mostly there because my brain noticed there's a lot of main Nintendo multiplayers coming out for the Switch this year and I was talking about the way the market reacts to consumer expectations. I should also be asleep.

Switch's multiplayer is also hinging on the local split screen thing a lot, more than any console has in a generation, if not two. And anon did say they were looking forward to Splatoon 2. I was just rambling because I wanted to make a point about people not feeling a title right then. ARMS looks pretty good to me, but there really is no reason to buy in right now if you don't think it's your thing. Especially since post release should solve those questions one way or another with showing how the meta actually develops, even more than general reviews and opinions on the gameplay itself will.

Even if it's only $60 itself, it's never worth it to just go in on something you're not feeling it when a little patience should solve that for you easily.

The damage stays buffed in ranked if you have the + Version.
