I agree with his "the world should be wide open from the get go and not arbitrarily locked out because of story reasons you may or may not care about". Even considering that you can only get so far without the appropriate items, it makes the world feel big and open and epic. Like in the original Zelda, you only get clues and context for what you're doing by exploring and finding clues (or reading the manual). Ocarina and Link to the Past to a certain extent tells you what to do, why you're doing it and how you should be doing it. The original is like "here's the game, you figure out the rest".

A lot of Arin's points on gameplay don't hold up though. Arin seems to have a real trouble with 3D in general. Like if he has any issues with the sliding death pucks that apparently come out of nowhere despite being on a set path, maybe not stand where they slide? And speaking of sliding, maybe not wear the FUCKING HOVER BOOTS I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD TAKE THEM THE FUCC OFF.

There have been worse liars of course, but most of them needed independent fact-checking to be discredited.

I'll bring up one point among many: the complaint about find-the-switch puzzles.
Even the 2D Zelda games had hidden switches, which could only be placed under movable objects for obvious reasons. The transition to 3D allowed the dungeon designer to place hidden switches on the ceiling, under bridges, inside walls, etc.
If that wasn't a boring fake puzzle on the SNES, it certainly wasn't a boring fake puzzle on the N64 the first time the concept of hidden switches was expanded this way. It only got old later, and Arin himself has demonstrated he is in no position to claim a hidden switch is too obvious.
