http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-06-05-how-will-the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-change-the-open-world-paradigm

>One final component of Breath of the Wild that players are likely to miss in competitors that lack it is not so much a single feature as a philosophy. It ties into the emergent gameplay, the self-directed discovery, and the game's polish as a whole. It's a certain attention to detail, and willingness to use little mechanical touches to add delight to the smallest elements of the game.

It does look really good, does it run on a gtx 670 on cemu yet?

Basically they like that you don't hold down a button and autotrack to a quest marker like 90% of how you spend your time in the Shither 3

And yet they won't even bother learning from its strengths because the average western pleb wants games that teach you by putting hints on the screen rather than learning the mechanicsfor themselves.

He could just buy a scalped switch along with the game at that point and have access the rest of the switch's future library. Also, if his cpu is as old as his video card it's going to bottleneck the 1080 hard.

Like shitposting aside, Witcher 3's writing and world really grabbed me, but dude those controls and combat are just terrible. Hope they're next game either doesn't have combat or fixes it.
BOTW has a pretty bad story but the actual game part is just so immersive.

Good, maybe Ubisoft is willing to learn from this

The thing with Ubisoft is it's a hit and miss.

It really depends who what Dev team is working on X or Y project.
>>
>>379488489
>BOTW has a pretty bad story but the actual game part is just so immersive.
The story is fine and should be like that for the next Zelda games, the only time the Zelda team started focusing on story we got shit like Skyward Sword.
>>
>>379482724
It's CPU intensive 4+Ghz.

Most midrange GPU's can run it in 4k if paired with a fast CPU.
>>
>>379488954
Exploration wise, of course.
>>
BoTW is actually really good. I have yet to play a game like BoTW with that much physics and interaction in an open world. Most of them like The Witcher 3 or Horizon: Zero Dawn are very pretty in landscape but the objects in it are not really manipulable. The last game to do this was Crysis.
>>
>>379489070
Or Majora's Mask ;)
>>
>>379482667
>>379489034
>>379488612

Devs will 'learn' from this as much as they learned from OoT and Dark Souls.

They will copy the basic features of it but will fail completely to replicate the nuance and attention to detail because most developers simply aren't that good and don't have what it takes to craft something as intricate as Zelda.
>>
>>379488954
A very good open world game, nothing more. Next open world games should take some notes from it.
>>
>>379489462
the nintendo delusion is real.
>>
>>379482667
Lip service. The problem with the self directed discovery is that there is nothing substantial to discover.
>>
>>379482667

>>
>>379489739
Hopefuly devs will realize that people don't need quest objectives marked three different ways on their UI and outlined in yellow at all times.

Also emergent gameplay based on physics interactions for free form problem solving.
>>
>>379490896
>not having an argument in the first place

you're welcome

>"hehe I replied to your post with "le nope"
>"that makes your argument invalid!" ;^(
damn.
>>
>>379489259
There's no fucking story in the majority of the game. Majoras Mask is mechanically good. Storywise it's no heavier than OOT.
>>
>>379489192
Crysis is actually a very good comparison.
I should replay that game.
>>
>>379489616
This is entirely subjective.
Finding cool areas like the pitch-black Typhlo Ruins, Eventide, even less engaging stuff like Skull Lake or Akalla Tower, was absolutely the type of fun stuff I wanted from this game.

Also the level of physics and weather-based experimentation, and general dickery that has been recorded in numerous WebMs showcasing the fun AI scripting is certainly entertaining and surprising.
It took 100 hours of play before an enemy caught my boomerang out of midair and tossed it back at me, scared the shit out of me.

If you wanted loot or dungeons then there are other games, but that doesn't mean that this game isn't rewarding to other people.
>>
And why shouldn't they?
It is a good game, but it is still plagued by the same problems as other open world games, though remarkably less so.
It's overrated as all fuck, though, but still a good game.
>>
>>379489608
He has a point. I'm willing to bet that most devs won't even bother trying to replicate BotW because that would take time, money, talent and an actual desire to make something good.
>>
>>379492404
CDPR and Rockstar probably will.

>>
>>379494079
>Ubisoft did open worlds first
>>
>>379494428
Maybe not, but they definitely invented the "Minimap is blank, and it requires climbing a tower to get a better view of the surrounding world, along with a small little cutscene going around in a circle around said tower"

No matter what anyone says to the contrary, these are Ubisoft towers. Period.
>>
>>379495143
No 9/11 invented the tower climbing

All the best games used to focus solely on this. Fuck Sony for pushing cinematic experiences.
>>
>>379491553

MM and OOT both had a veritable sense of dread and urgency though. Seeing fucked up Hyrule for the first time or hearing the clock tower chime on the last day is far better than setting up the scale of the story than BotW, where you get told that Ganon fucked everything up but skipping fuccboi tells you to get 10 chia seeds for him not 50 meters away from an active Guardian.
>>
>>379499210

Lazy games focus on this you mean. Instead of handcrafted sidequests and locales with purpose with them, the devs just place a stuffed animal next to a campfire and woah, emergent storytelling bullshit. Same issue with FO3 where 90% of the locations were useless but its ok because we placed 3 props together so you can infer a shit story from it.
>>
>>379499530
>MM
>sense of urgency
>people are chilling in town even when they see a Giant boulder is about to crush them to death

deluded fedora mask cucks at it again
>>
>>379499530

The destruction all happened a long time ago though, and so the implication is that living under the thumb of Calamity Ganon has become the new normal. I actually appreciated the frankness with which the inhabitants of Hyrule discuss the calamity and its aftermath, and the tenacity they showed in rebuilding the smaller settlements after the once-bustling land was reduced to ash 100 years ago. It was much better than the self-serious melodrama of TP and SS, and it reminded me of the bittersweet optimism that characterized LttP and the adult half of OoT
>>
>>379499868

Please have played the game before shitposting.

Can anyone tell me what about BOTW was so revolutionary to open world games? I honest to god don't get it. The environments are pretty reactive, with the burning grass and stuff like that, but beyond that it seemed extraordinarily empty and repetitive. I enjoyed it, but shit, I've enjoyed the open world elements of other games even more.

Also Breath of the Wild was inspired by Terraria. Which ironically is a great game with a great sense of exploration as well.

But it is the most optimized, and being the shortest it requires the least amount of fucking amiibos for the route.

Actually, considering that most runners use spoofed amiibos through NFC chips, I'm guessing that for the event to stay in good graces they would probably only have amiiboless runs there, or ones where the number you use is feasible to actually own, like in the any% run, so they can use the real thing.

Literally nothing about BoTW gameplay is worth praising about. Literally nothing about it is original and innovative. Everything from the combat, crafting, physics and movement are mediocre. What the fuck kind of retard does this dev think that BoTW is good? Did they even played other video games before this?
>>
>>379508298

Learn to put a fucking sentence together
>>
>>379508298
Did you miss the OP?

It's not being praised for trying something new but for being a well polished package of an adventure game.

It's being praised for rewarding experimental gameplay mechanics with discovery and exploration without being told how to do those things or how to get to those locations.

In most other open world games of the modern era you're largely guided by tutorials on how to approach combat and narrative on how to approach the adventure.

In BotW you are creating your own path to becoming the hero and even though the final battle may be the same destination, the journey and execution of the final battle will not always be the same.
