space game thread
Is rebel galaxy any good?
It is good for about 6-8 hours, then you have seen all there is to see.
Soundtrack is great though.

No, it's shit.

Interesting take on the combat, story is eh but travelling/fighting/trading/mining is fun. Good soundtrack, will get repetitive so I could only recommend it if you can get it around 10-15 dollars.
Most importantly, it is fun.

It's fun, but really simple and shallow. You'll be disappointed if you go in expecting a full space experience.
But if you just want to spend a few hours being a space cowboy then it does the job nicely.

>so I could only recommend it if you can get it around 10-15 dollars.
I was asking because its currently free with any purchase on GOG, Im going to get it with gothic 2 for only 3 bucks.
Try space station 13

100% worth it then, go for it. It's got enough charm in its unique take and soundtrack, especially if you're a little starved for single ship non RTS space games. It's no Freelancer, but it's worth that price any day of the week.

It surprised me at how good it was. Had to grow on me, though.
first hour:
>only 2D gameplay? Lame.
>story and VA is bland
>super linear equipment progression
>what the fuck is this music
4 hours in:
>oh shit these fights are intense
>story is still meh but missions have good variety
>the chance for a higher tier weapon drop at low levels lends to making you feel surprisingly powerful
>I CAN'T HIIIIIIDE, MY EEEEVIL WAAAAAYS

you should post it in agdg on /vg/
If you were into assassin's creed black flag for the ship then this is a good comparison. The dev crew are supposed to be coming out with something new in the same universe so I'm actually interested in this
It's kind of grindy but decent enough.

Is it just me or are all spaceship themed games have the same art direction. Like you could take the ship designs from any of them and and mix them up and I couldn't tell the difference.
Just picked this up as it is on sale on steam atm.
Not a big fan of the simple art style but god damn the gameplay is tight.
Is civilization galaxy III as good as this?

Basically this. I liked it a lot initially but the charm wears off once you realize it's not going to do anything different.
Protip for anyone getting rebel galaxy: make sure to spend as much time as you can in the isolated system once the story gets you through the jump gate. You can't go back once you leave it and you can do insanely lucrative guild quests that never take you out of system to farm their loyalty points and massive amounts of cash. Instead of warping across multiple systems for dead drops, you just warp over to the pickup in system then go back to the guild station.
>tfw got memed with Elite Dangerous
I was promised eric space battles and I got police officers in asteroid belts x100.
Only met one guy in my 35~ hours of playing.
Have you guys tried starpoint gemini warlords? Im playing it right now and its decent. I like the idea a lot but the implementation is quite subpar.
Space Pirates and Zombies was pretty good. Anyone tried the sequel yet?

It's a shame spaz 2 is so different from 1. 1 was tons of fun but 2 looks like a compleatly different game, too different, I liked using my small fleet and having a only a single frankenship just does not look interesting.

how much will it cost?
