why
>>
>>379457526
X isn't a shape anyways.
>>
remember the ps1/ps2 days where triangle was cancel? :)
>>
>>379457526
how retarded would it be with a "yes" and "no" button?
>>
>>379457526
In Japan the buttons are the other way around.
>>
Asian games have the reverse, my guess is because X is usually mapped to the most important control it's more intuitive
>>
SCEA had to be different than Nintendo and SCEJ.
>>
>>379457771
I know, I'm asking why they switched them
>>
Holding the controller, the right thumb rests more naturally when laid across the box and cross rather than the pyramid and sphere. Most of the time when navigating menus you'll want to press the confirm button so obviously it should be either the box or the cross. You don't want the cancel button to be the other one, so it should be one of the other two buttons. Cross and sphere are a bit more comfortable to press than box and pyramid. That's why. Japan be damned.

>western games
>>
>>379457825
so what you're saying is the Japanese have tiny hands that rest on cross and sphere?
>>
>>379457646
*Cross
>>
>>379457825
>>379457803
just switch the fucking x and o buttons
problem fucking solved
>>
I always like playing some old ps2 game where O is yes and X us no. I didn't however lile how Automata would switch it up mid conversation.
>>
>>379457812
so that the west would be different. We don't want to be asians do we? unless you're a basement dwelling smelly weeb neet.
>>
>>379457726
i think OP was thinking more along the lines that when using a circle and x that a circle the positive one and the x is negative.
>>
>>379457526
>blue
>cancel
>red
>confirm
are you retarded op
>>
>>379457526
think about multiple choice tests in college or whatever.

you place a cross on the answer you're picking in order to confirm it. plus, the position of X on the controller is indeed more intuitive. plus, the circle button is red and red is for canceling something.
>>
>>379457526
X is like a check mark
O is an empty bubble that hasn't been checked
>>
>>379458079
No, you fill in a bubble
>>
>>379457812
My guess is that play testers kept pressing Cross for yes and got frustrated so Sony declared that the functions should be swapped.
>>
>>379457702
Me nether.
>>
Blue mean confirm
Red is usually negative or stop.

>>379457526
Who cares
>>
>>379457526
Square is menu because it's... well square like a menu
Triangle is map or special because it looks like a pointer or something similar
X is yes here because it's like in a forum where you fill in the box and most used way to fill in is using an X even though a check mark works but It'd be stupid if we had a check mark button instead of an X
O is no here because it's often the least used button so what better than to cancel or reject

In Japan:
X is no because it means no, simple as that
And O is yes because it means yes

And the American way is so universally accepted nowadays it's near impossible to switch back, so stop being a weeb and get used to it
>>
>>379458291
but green means confirm
>>
>>379457526
To differentiate themselves from the snes inputs around 1998. MGS and FF7 were pretty much the last ones.
>>
>>379458291
Blue is cold, bad.
Red is hot, good.
>>
>>379458461
Blue also does too.
>>
>>379457526
Blue and red.

>>
>>379457916
Sí señor.
>>
>>379458192
American education, everybody
>>
>>379458756
they're swapped in Europe too genius
>>
>>379457812
Because xbox.Sony put its O button in the sameplace as Nintendos A button for a reason. The 360s rise in popularity happened at the same tim American game development began to grow. But because xbox put it's yes and no buttons in reverse the new American developer began to design their games round the button layout. So when it came time to make the ps3 version they kept the same layout since they didn't know about the X O thing in japan. Now poor Nintendo is stuck with a strange layout situat
>>
>>379458649
I don't think my controller is a fucking traffic light.
>>
>>379457526
eXecute
abOrt
>>
>>379458917
I don't think red ever would mean yes or confirm
>>
>>379458827
But the PS1 was out before the Xbox and it used X as the confirm button
>>
>>379459087
it does in Japan
>>
>>379458546
>implying blue isn't higher up on the em spectrum and thus hot while red is colder
>>
>>379459220
Then change the damn colors with x being red then
>>
>>379459220
Well Japan is stupid
>>
>>379459220
Do they go on red lights?
>>
>>379462042
No, they go on blue lights retard
>>
>>379462042
no, traffic lights are universal
>>
>>379462137
>they go on blue lights
>x is accelerate in racing games
>this means x is no
What retards.
>>

>>379458279
Suikoden comes to mind.
>>
>>379458827
You've got it backwards.
Xbox has A at the bottom because localized Playstation games had X as the confirm button.
It was the biggest console at the time and that control scheme was what people were the most exposed to in the west, so that was the template Microsoft followed.
>>
>>379458827
Literally wrong in every way
>>
>>379457526
O = blank space
X = a tick mark
>>
>>379458279
>what is FF8
>or Digimon World
>or Suikoden
>>
>>379458004
>>379457526

Because X marks the spot, numbnuts.
>>
>>379457526
>Get UMVC3 for Vita
>Get to the main menu
>Asks if I want to go online
>Press X
>goes back to main men
>Press X again
>Keep doing it over and over
>Days later remember japs are retarded and press O instead of X for confirm

Basically Fuck Capcom
