Yeah, P5 is sort of like Pokemon what with having the ability to negotiate with demons to go on your side of which is almost like capturing wild pokemon. As for the team building your partners are pretty static in how they'll grow, where as the protagonist can utilize multiple personas at a time to function as multiple roles like a healer, status inflictor, raw damage. There's also the fact you utilize type element weaknesses and strengths to deal more damage and get extra turns.

Now if you want something with more team building options you might want to try out mainline SMT games as those are where you actually have demons you recruited for you rather than static allies.

Yes, but it's not the games you posted. Games like SMT IV and 7th Dragon III are revitalizing classic JRPG gameplay with modern enhancements and streamlining. There are a lot of games getting translated that would have been niche, forgettable titles ten years ago. It's like OSR but with JRPG vidya. 8th Gen JRPGs are a clear improvement over most of 7th Gen with some notable exceptions (TWEWY, Sakaguchi games, Xenoblade etc)

It also seems they are being far more favourably recieved critically as well. I think the "Too Japanese" tax is lifting.

The soundtrack focused on a pool of musical styles with well composed tracks. It is very melodic but it punches well with the presentation and how the animations and art pops, sometimes literally onto the screen. There's plenty of variety in the soundtrack. FF15 is literally missing almost all fantasy elements and has replaced turnbased combat with quick time events.

Tales of Bereresereseria is the best of the bunch, but the franchise is a shadow of Tales of Detiny, or even Phantasia. I didn't like Symphony, but at least I had a little respect for it.
