I've never really liked the xbox controller layout. I guess it comes from never having an xbox before, I bought a controller for PC when I finally got around to building it but for some reason I use my PS4 controller instead. I play a lot of platformers and D-pad is much better on the playstation controller so I guess that's one reason, I also suppose I'm accustomed to playing 3D action adventure games with the similar layout from the PS2 era. I honestly think the new xbox controller looks a lot nicer than the DS4 and I don't really have any issues using it when I'm over at friend's houses or whatever, but I really like the DS4 and using the gimmicky touch pad to control the mouse is pretty useful. The DS3 is garbage going back and playing PS3 games.

What I do hate about the newer games coming out on PC is that they actually detect that my DS4 is a playstation controller and they show the playstation prompts, I'm so used to the xbox ones now that I can't handle the playstation ones. However when I'm actually using my PS4, I don't usually have an issue, unless it's a QTE telling me to press X, I'll still press square.

You'll understand once you have a real controller to play smash on. The Wiimote is the literal weakest option for Super Smash Brothers. By an objective measurement.

It's the only controller you can use where you cannot travel in the opposite direction of your aerial attack. And that's probably not the only restriction it faces, its just the MAJOR one I know offhand

PS4 sticks have been fixed so they shouldn't degrade as much. I got my Anniversary controller on release, and have used it more than twice as much as my original controller. One analog was falling apart during that time, while my Anniversary controller still shows no sign of wear.

Best is a DIY parallel port adapter, but you probably don't have a parallel port on your PC, are also unlikely to have a decent USB to parallel adapter laying around and buying one would blow the budget anyway.

I got a DS2 controller in perfect form, it was in a neighbor closet.

They changed this in a recent iteration

The front face flat zones are matte now and the back/grips has a grippier texture with a bunch of little dots, which feels like how the touchpad looks

The face sounds like an improvement but the back still sounds shit. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the smooth surface of the previous models, not to mention that having the surface change along the side meaning that you can feel where the two parts of the controller join together when holding it.

The DS4 is pretty good, i still prefer xbone but sony has made a massive step forward over the first 3 dualshocks

Idk why, but I really like this controller.
I bet it's not the best but I really like how it plays.
The fact that you can use them separate is kind of comfortable. The syncing issue would be its only flaw.

I don't know what it is about this thing but something about its design causes it to slide off of absolutely everything and hit the dirt constantly. I've never dropped any other controller as much as I have the DS4. Thankfully I still haven't had any issues with it from dropping it so at least the build is sturdy.
