The story was fine. Dude, it's a game made purely out of passion by a college student long time ago, before the age of Unity and Game Maker. I can't even think of a reason it turned out so fucking good.

It's praised so much because of the standard it set. You have indie devs complaining that their game didn't turn out good because not enough people helped to fund some kickstarter. People will get hundreds of thousands of dollars and their game still ends up being shit compared to cave story.

Not really even though this game was lauded as the best by some it didn't reach the level of praise that skyrim had reached. I'm sorry to bring it up but even reviewers who usually slob on the bethesda knob gave this game a pretty low score.
