I don't like Dark Souls 2 or 3 as much because of the second focusing too much on the challenge and the 3rd one focusing too much on the emotion of decay and darkness.

The fucking atmosphere was definitely something else. It didn't feel like a normal midieval setting, it was almost dreamlike in the ways the land was. Even though the combat was much better in 3, exploring the world felt so much better in 1.

The higher degree of feasible sequence-breaking was neat too. I liked being able to go get the Great Scythe after a mad-dash through a maze of overleveled enemies.

Also I could be totally wrong about this, but wasn't there a more... Latin feel to it? Compared so some of the more generic gothic stuff in 3.

I mean don't get me wrong. I like the game. I have 200 hours in it.

But I swear I really have no clue how so many people refuse to acknowledge that the game is unfinished as fuck.
It's a game that's massively interesting to think about, and which has influenced gaming a lot because it rethinks a lot of typical game design, but jesus CHRIST the fucking pure wankery over this game is incomprehensible.

Mark my words. Once those dipshits who made Lords of the Fallen and The Surge fuck off so that someone competent can rip off Dark Souls, we'll all be better off.
We'll have Souls games that are actually finished at launch and don't take two steps back for every step forward.

I think its more important to the industry to address what made Dark Souls successful rather than what specifically made it enjoyable

>Released in a time when most triple A games were considered far too easy
>amazing and risky marketing campaign that sold the game on its punishing difficulty
>satisfying yet simple combat that was extremely easy to pick up and play
>amazing boss battles in a time period where most triple A games either forgot about boss battles or had shit boss battles
>a deep, melancholic atmosphere that was memorable and unique
>interconnected, pseudo-metroidvania world could be completed in a huge variety of orders
>the above combined with PvP and the massive amount of build variety thanks to the sheer amount of weapons/spells and limitations on stat allocations made the game incredibly replayable, while still allowing people to beat the base game in around 40-60 hours on their first run. People remember games they've sunk hundreds of hours in more fondly.

You felt like you were on a journey. The world was interconnected incredibly well, and you could upgrade at any bonfire. This was really something special that they inexplicably axed in the later games, going back to the Demon Souls model of teleportation and having a central hub to upgrade. For me, it killed any sense of progression and mastering the world, and it felt more like Mario or something. Can you imagine if Frodo Baggins kept warping back to the Shire at the end of every chapter? It would be a completely different book.

It's ok if you don't enjoy the game for what it is or in general, you don't affect anything whatsoever and are wholly insignificant. You know what I'm not doing when playing the second half of the game (ie just Demon Ruins and Izalith since they're the only really weak areas)? What exactly is there to be angry about when playing a game? Also projecting that I'm hailing the game as a 10/10 is silly since I just said I'm not a game reviewer and don't do retarded shit like that. What fulfillment do you get out of letting others know how much toy hate certain aspects of the game(s)? Also feel free to list some "amazing" games if there are any you find "amazing", which there shouldn't be because flaws obviously mean a game can't be truly good.
