What does /v/ think of Viagrant Story?
It's better than it has any right to be.

I had an erection lasting longer than 4 hours while playing this game and had to go to the hospital
>>379388129
Pretty much. The game is awesome
>>379387706
More like what does nu-Square think of good games

Best Sakimoto soundtrack
>>379387706
I've tried a few times to get into it. The whole weapon affinity bit turns me off and I always end up putting it down and not coming back to it for a year or so.
>>379389737
You only need a weapon for blunt, piercing and slashing and swap around gems or buff with magic for the rest.
Artificial difficulty
>>379387706
I really wanted to get into it, but couldn't wrap my head around the weapon system.
I remember getting to the first or second boss, and it being a big bug or something that I couldnt do any damage to. I got frustrated and dropped the game and never went back to it.
Vagrant Story had a weapon called the "Dog's Nose". What did they mean by this?
>>379390321
It was a playstation analog nub.

Great game. Was originally designed as final fantasy Viii, but after the success of ffvii they canned it and remade it because they wanted an emphasis on a "romantic story". And ff8 was born. Since the game was almost finished they rebranded it, changed the story a little bit and released it as Vagrant story.
Glad it saw the light of day as it was one of my favorite games growing up
Probably one of the most challenging but gun games I've played recently. Still haven't beaten it but it's fun to come back to every now and again. Just can't sit down to play it all through.
>>379390395
Just like I thought.
They were ahead of the game and were telling it to us more than a decade ago.
One of the best Square RPGS of all time, really. I wish they would have done a sequel or another game with a similar combat system.
>>379387706
boring, dreary, linear, overrated
Pretty good. Could use a HD remake with a few QoL improvements. A way to quickly change weapons and reducing the MP cost of teleport would be a good start.
>>379389737
Weapon affinity isn't important until the final boss. From most important to least:
Damage type (slash/stab/blunt) > element (fire/ice/etc.) > affinity (vs. human/beast/etc.).
>>379390225
It's a game where you need to use buffs and debuffs. One of the first spells you get after the first boss is a STR debuff, which lowers physical attack and defense. After another early boss, you get the STR buff spell. The combination of the 2 is enough for most fights after that.
they have to remake it for ps4
After Chrono Trigger, it's the best game Square's ever made.
They'll never top it. They're not even trying, really.
>>379391291
crono trigger, this one, final fantasy 8 and final fantasy tactis are the only good square rpgs
>>379391414
y'know what
you'reright
After FF9 maybe my favorite Square game of all time.
>>379390821
same way the original plan of FF7 became Parasite Eve.
>>379387706
anything Square and FF related is usually a top quality game.
>>379387706
i has a crappy pirated version of it that froze a few hours into the game, so i couldn't play the whole thing. but i liked what i did play, it has a great art style, i really appreciated the androgynous looking people as a kid for some reason.
>>379392417
pre-2007 square
>>379391414
you have to play ff9 dude, if you like tactics and ff8 then ff9 should be right up your alley.
>>379387706
Not particularly well designed and the combat wasn't actually that grehat, but thought it was a cool idea and attempt, and I really liked the atmosphere and style.
>>379387706
they have weird hairs
also i can't play game where the love interest is a brunette
>>379392749
>love interest
>>379392578
I'm still willing to give the new games a chance everytime. can't wait for the new Dissidia.
when I tried out FFXIII I was kinda weirded out by it. Still loving all the FF releases on PC and former handhelds.
It's an amazing game.
New players can definitely get pissed when they fight an enemy where they do 0 damage and the only way they can kill them is using the ap to damage chain.
Seriously top 10 ps1 game though
>>379392964
>Still loving all the FF releases on PC and former handhelds.
which ones tho
Does it have the best art direction of any JRPG?
>>379394056
Yup. Best soundtrack and atmosphere as well.
Absolutely fantastic game with a lot of depth and awesome story when I played it in 2000.
Probably quite difficult to get into today if you've not played it before.
>>379393513
FF8 and 9 on PC.
even FF5 and 6 on PC but I prefer GBA versions.
FF1 and 2 on PSP are so cool.
>>379387706
- Boring story with boring characters
- Gameplay is engaging at least, assuming you know what you're doing (if you don't know what you're doing with your weapon upgrades you're fucked)
- Pretty shitty environments, just an empty city and lots of dull looking dungeons
- Ashley's Riot's ass
It was alright but I'd never play it again.

You just need to level up different weapons to deal with different enemy types. It's like elements - if you try fighting a water enemy with a water weapon you're not gonna do shit.
So did he ever had a family to begin with or it simply doesn't matter?
>>379395317Ashley is shown visions of his past, where his wife Tia and his son Marco are killed by rogues. Meeting Rosencrantz again, Ashley is told that they were not his family, but mistaken targets he killed during a mission of theirs. Ashley's guilt over their deaths was manipulated by the VKP to turn Ashley into a loyal Riskbreaker.
