It's because the main problem of Splatoon was just the content. Every reviewer was saying that the gameplay was good.
Here it's different, because even though Nintendo will give us free updates, the gameplay is not flawless. Content is poor but it's not the only issue with the game.

That's fair enough, but I stand by my point. I don't believe those problems would have been seen as made up for had this not been Zelda/Nintendo. And it's not like it was a perfect game aside from it, either. People tended to look past the plentiful repetitive elements of the game when scoring highly.

I think BotW had a free pass on some issues because the reviewers saw the game as "how the next open world games should be made".

Of course some things were not perfect, shrines should have been a "real part" of the overworld, we could have use at least one more Beast, the breakable weapons system could have been tweaked, and rewards for quests are very poor... But as I see it, it's like finding a spelling mistake or some strangely written sentences in a very good essay. We all know these mistakes are there and that it's unfortunate, but it won't change the fact that the core of the essay is great.

Which, as we all know, game journalists are fucking garbage at. That doesn't mean everything said in a review is invalidated of course but I generally disregard anything that involved player skill mentioned in reviews, such as difficulty or "Depth of the game mechanics".

Did you not play the testpunch? I used both motion controls and standard controls, its easy to fuck up a grab on either if you're not being precise about it. Otherwise it's purely up to preference.
