Why is this game so boring?

I thought it was pretty fun on my first playthrough.
You only notice how shallow it is after 12-16 hours or so.
>>
you're supposed to play with porn mods you know

becuse you have no sence of adventure. the combat and quests are boring, but climbing over that hill too see the nordic ruin, or cave, or whatever and exploring it and getting loot, is fun.

it could have been better if every cave and ruin wasnt just a big long corador that loops back to the start. but lots of people have fun and loose track of time playing it and exploring.

The way I see it, there are two good options:
1. Complex hand crafted caves with stuff like dropping bridges, puzzles, water physics shit, and so on.
2. Randomly generated simple caves that are different every time.

Bethesda went with option 3:
3. Hand crafted simple caves that are the same every time.

Because, like all post-morrowind Bethesda games, it fails to offer either really interesting fiction, or really interesting mechanics. It just kinda stumbles somewhere between: the environments are too generic and lifeless and by the numbers to be a real thrill to explore, but the character progression and combat and quests are too dull to carry the game as well.

Modern TES games are THE fantasy game. The definition of generic. A simple, shallow games with simply, generic fantasy environment, aimed at mostly normal-fags who are currently heavily infused with fantasy medium, designed to easily and accessibly provide an option to live out a brief, shallow experience of being a magic viking fighting dragons. It has no ambitions beyond that: it exists to meet and fulfill the expectations of lowest common denominator audience, who just want an incredibly simple fantasy-based power fantasy and that is all.

It does not aim to create a world that could stand up on it's own. It aims to provide a fiction that the audience is already familiar with.
It does not aim to create an RPG of it's own. It just aims to give you tools to set up the most basic power fantasy imaginable.

And that is really it. It's a service-oriented game. Mainstream audience already know what they want, and TES is just dutifully giving them exactly that: no more, no less.

These people are also commonly known as "retarded normies".

And you're the jaded autist who's unable to find enjoyment in video games because all he does is sit on his ass and do nothing but play games

It's meant for casuals

If you take it real easy instead of trying to play it as a real RPG you are going to have fun.

its not gothic

I am now since I added World's Dawn and tons of new spells, armor, and weapons. Combined with Lootification, WD is really cool: classic RPG stat system, loads of neat random enchantments on gear (and modded gear), and new powers to use make things more interesting. I have a pair of iron boots that give me a "stone golem" power where I can make my skin turn to stone for more defense and hp regen, but I can't heal from potions or spells, and I move 50% slower. I got hit by some skeleton's arrow and it caused a small meteor to crash into the ground right beside me. Neat stuff.

the gameplay elements are reduced to such simplicity that they are basically identical. all dungeons and areas plays exactly the same. all enemies feel exactly the same. all choices you make in your character results in largely the same gameplay experience. add to that MMO type quests and constant hand holding. also because the loot system is absolute shit (because everything is the same set of equipment just linearly getting more stats) exploration feels unrewarding.

because it's not Team Fortress 2.

Actually, the more curious you are: the more have you read, watched, traveled, thought and talked to people, the less attractive the exploration of Skyrim will become. It's - just like Fallout 3 and Oblivion - very specifically aimed at people who have no sense of actual adventure in themselves, people with very narrow horizon and little experience. People who have never seen a castle, people who have never walked around scandinavia: those people might find what Skyrim offers "adventure and exploration".

But anyone with even a slightly broader horizon will find it incredibly dull and generic and poorly designed - precisely because they have some basic or experience to compare it to.

Because it's not an RPG. It's a really watered down FPS at this point.

And it's only gonna get worse.

Game gives you nothing interesting to do. The game needed better direction overall.

Shouts could have been interesting, but almost all of them have no use. I remember thinking once I got the sprint shout that it was going to increase my mobility, but I can only remember one instance where that was useful to access a worthless stash in a dungeon. If I were designing Skyrim, I would have created more situations where shouts, or spells for that matter, are efficient tools at overcoming obstacles. Like just add a few crevices on the map that you can't jump over without sprint. Little things like that make your world so much more interesting because it stimulates your problem solving skills. Gate different areas in the game behind progression or challenge, cause that gives you goals.
There was also that voice throwing shout that had potential, but again has no applicability cause it almost never sets up anything interesting and sneaking is extremely forgiving already.
They either focused too much on sterilizing the player's experience, or they didn't think to make anything fun. I'm leaning more on the former cause fun mechanics emerge when you design fun tools, and there's little fun to be had.

That wouldn't be a big problem if the game's basic mechanics themselves were fun, but everything from quests to conversations to stealth to combat is super fucking dry. I would take Morrowind's combat over Skyrim's cause at least there I know I can break the combat system.

The environment is probably the healthiest part of the base game. It's the only thing pushing you to go further, to see the different areas in the game. It's a shame the cities are so unrealistically small, cause that would have anchored the game a little.
