Absolutely not. Cataclysm had the worst linear questing in WoW. Everything felt like a guided tour for the purpose of advancing the story. No sense of exploration or discovery. Just fly from one quest marker to the next and pound it all out. Typical theme-park MMO design. Nothing comfy about it.

>>379365894
I never got tired of any town themes except in DQVII. Because you spend literally 30-40 hours in towns in that game. Way too much NPC dialogue. Dragon Quest VIII hit the perfect balance. And it also had more town themes than the other games.

Aaaah the nostalgia. I'll never be able to enjoy a game like I enjoyed FFVIII back then. If I were to play it today I'd probably shit all over it on /v/ because of how broken the combat system was.
I also think the fact that it encourages you to use No Combat throughout most of the game improves the comfy factor massively.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_jOR3V07Xw
>>379367189
Every FF game has broken combat so it wasn't just a thing of the time. What was a thing back then was the majority of players were ignorant kids. Now the average FF fan is a 25-35 year old and grew to recognize how shitty FF games are.
>>379367281
Without fail, every single theory to magically explain why a large group of people feel a certain way is unbelievably retarded. Just stop.
>>379367189
>because of how broken the combat system was.
I don't particularly like VIII but this is my favorite part about the game, getting Quistis' ultimate weapon before the Fire Cave, functioning Ultima to everyone and stuff is fun.

>>379367369
junctioning* not functioning
>>379367281
FFVIII more so than many of the others though. It's frustrating-broken not funny-broken. The hour-long summons, stupid scaling, magic-as-an-item that you also can associate with one of your attributes etc... Having to steal summons from bosses too, I kept forgetting to do it and ended up missing a ton of GFs during my first playthrough.
In comparison FFVII's materia system is a lot more intuitive and fun to mess with.
>>379367369
It's fun in subsequent playthroughs once you've read a guide on how to exploit it. Your first time it's a bit of a mess though, you're not sure what does what and what matters. It's not very intuitive to say the least. That being said I was 12 when the game came out, maybe I was just too retarded to figure it out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzKHWdVMsag
>>379362397
Kinda wish a port of it for Switch so i can play it everywhere.
Would also give me a reason to replay through it
>>379367607
The in-game tutorial lists out what items can be refined into which magic, and what stats are best boosted by each spell. It's just that no one actually goes into that menu.
>>379367717
I guess, I'd have to replay it I suppose, I haven't touched it in more than a decade. Although if I do I'd probably follow a min-maxing guide to see how much I can break the game.
Not to say that it's better than the latter games, but Animal Crossing on the gamecube has the best, comfiest graphics of the entire series. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but it just feels so visually pleasing.
>Charming low-poly models
>The clean, pixelated texture for furniture
>Can vary from being vivid, bright, and cheery, to calm, dark, and cold
>Fireflies at night in the summer
>Weird, bizzare secrets/characters like the Fountain Spirit, finding the ghost late at night, etc.
>Going home at night once everything's closed to play NES games in your cozy house
>Having to work to get characters to be your friend and be nice to you, instead of just having everyone instantly love you
>Soccerballs
>Building snowmen
>The island
It kills me that nobody ever tries to make any game like Animal Crossing, because I feel like it'd be so easy to improve on where Nintendo lacks.

>>379368010
>Not to say that it's better than the latter games
It objectively is in multiple areas, like villager interactions, holiday events, and having actual town layout variety.
SWG was very comfy back before CU and NGE.
Driving around in my Speederbike to collect resources from my harvester before going back to town, sitting in a quiet corner or in a cantina where some other players were dancing and playing music to craft some new shit to stick in my vendor was some of the most relaxing time I had in any MMO.
I've been playing the first Rune Factory for the first time since it came out, and I forgot how amazing it is. Looking forward to finishing it so I can finally get to the other games.
I tried playing Friends of Mineral Town and just couldn't get into it. I assume it's because I never played 64 or Back to Nature as a kid so the nostalgia factor isn't there, but I was surprised seeing as how it's a favorite among lots of Harvest Moon fans. It could also be that I find the townspeople in Rune Factory to be way more interesting and enjoyable, and the town just feels more alive in general.

>>379367607
Every FF game is easy to cheese. And if you want to do anything besides just use the basic skills, you have to grind. FFVII is no exception. You want mug or a maxed out summon? Prepare to grind materia. You want to get the best skills in FFVIII? Prepare to do a lot of refining in the early game and then going to the islands in the late game.
There really isn't much of a difference. If anything, FFVIII takes far less work than FFVII.
>>379368392
How is that comfy dude? Dirty matress, no blankets, dirty floor, dirty desk. The only thing that's somewhat comfy is the old TV, nice static sound when it's on and the heavy clicks when you switch channels.

>>379368867

>>379362350
Dead or third world in the populated areas, yeah. Even for a fantasy world the quality of life in the big cities looks like absolute shit and that's BEFORE they all get turned to rubble by summon monsters. I dunno how anyone can call it comfy. Easily the least comfy world out of the first 12 games.
>>379361991
Nice open-ended level structure, so different from FF XIII!
>>379368435
I'm extremely conflicted when it comes to which game is my favorite.
>Population Growing
NES games
Cozy low-poly graphics
Better island
Far better villager dialogue
Far better villager requests
More interesting town layouts
More events in general, not even just holidays, but stuff like keeping track of the lighthouse for Tortimer, the early morning aerobics, etc.
Dump
Resetti
Doesn't use the weird curved-world view
The train system to visit another town, while outdated, was fucking radical as hell for the time.
>New Leaf
Far better character customization (I like the shortstack models, but NL's customization is unarguably far better)
PWPs (could be handled better, but GC still doesn't have them)
Diving
Wifi
Faster money-making (although farming bugs is just fucking tedious and kinda ruins the fun of the island)
Waaaay more furniture/clothes
The outside of the house is customizable, as well as the location
Customizable furniture colors/patterns/etc.
QR codes
Much bigger inventory
Dream Suites
Vanity hand-held stuff (Coffee, pinwheels, toy hammer, etc.)
Ultimately, it all comes down to preference, Personally, I like NL more, but only just barely thanks to better character customization and wifi.
Running around on the water world and Dantooine in KOTOR. But it could be because everywhere else was a slum.

This is not true. You gain nothing from avoiding combat. You are, in fact, punished for doing so by getting Seed rank demotions.
When will this meme end? I recently read about some idiot getting to the final boss at level 9 and wondering why it was hard for him. It's your fault that chump was fooled. You. And him for being a chump, I suppose.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgPcl1WJ98Y
>>379369860
Purposefully restricting your level doesn't make the game easier. If anything, it takes more effort and time with all that running and limiting certain skills/GFs you can use. It is actually easier to beat the game at level 99 because you can spam limit breaks. And you get some significant boosts between level 91 and 99 that make you way more powerful than the enemies (which stay at level 90).
The idea that keeping your level low makes the game easier is a common misconception. Originally it was done by fans who had already mastered the game, in an attempt to give them a challenge. But it got twisted by FFVIII haters who began to use it as an excuse why the game sucked. If anything, you sound like the one who doesn't understand the mechanics of the game by continuing to push this flawed narrative.
>>379368867

>>379371795
>>379371376
I actually think comfort can come about from a combination of atmosphere and game knowledge. If you know the game really well and its dripping with atmosphere, the tone becomes kinda irrelevant. Look at The Nexus in Demon Souls, everyone gathered there to die, theres someone going around killing the NPCs, yet it still manages to be a comfy place. Sure its a safezone, but its still a tomb, sounds eerily comfy to me.
>>379371113
>you can spam limit breaks.
You can spam limit breaks at any level.
>The idea that keeping your level low makes the game easier is a common misconception.
Monsters scale at a faster rate than your base stats increase, it's far easier to keep a low level and gain stats through Junctioning.

I know I'm a big faggot, but when I was 10 I worked and saved up money for months and bought my first console (brother had bought previous ones), the PS2 right when FFX came out. And the music inspired me to get a piano book and teach myself piano, which led to a career as a concert pianist and eventually an opera singer. hm. I would say, if it looks appealing to you, look into it. It definitely has its merits. It is very casual in some ways, but way more classy and less cringy than Overwatch.
The Raids are some of the best content I've ever played in a videogame. Kino gameplay-wise. But the story is non-existant and LOST tier, and they employ gambling psychology to get you to buy DLC.

You can laugh about the gambling thing ... the minute to minute gameplay is polished and fun, and at times Dark Souls tier hard, but the loot system which brackets the entire experience is literally a slot machine. So like, Destiny is a slot machine and shooting aliens in the face is pulling the lever. It marrs the experience and makes it feel soulless

Beating the game at a very low level is not hard at all. It requires a bit of time to get the right cards to turn into spells from Triple Triad, but that's it. Grind until you get Enc-none, get junction 100 Deaths to attack for three characters, play cards for the rest of the game and you're good. If you want GF abilities, grind on Cactuars later.
>>379369603
All you do when your SeeD rank drops is take a test to up it. Doing that I stayed at Rank A for the whole game. Not that you need money much, I took 20 minutes or so buying, converting, and selling stuff for a profit in Dollet, bought everything I needed, and ended the game with over a million gil just from paydays.

Actually played the game grinding and hit 100lvl on the 3 disc.
It was a better thing to do, enemies had new tricks and were more varied.
You also get better stuff from them and I was interested in seeing what they had, plus I could explore the game and not try and avoid fighting.
Junctioning is so broken tho the enemies werent very challenging, catoplebas were the one that pushed me a bit because of stone shit in Esthar city.
Apart from that even though I pushed it a bit close I was ok.
Only in ultimecia castle I unjunctioned everyone to see how much different it makes and was instantly slayed by bottom bunk tier bitches.
