Which was better: Homicide or Vice?
>>
R* should do an LAnoirelike vidya based on The Wire.
>>
Can anyone explain this game to me?

Is it like Mafia, GTA, Max Payne, or some kind of psychological game with no action, but only dialogues?
>>
>>379360721
Phoenix Wright made by Americans
with gunplay
and driving
>>
Every case in homicide was the same with you putting people in prison who were obviously framed, so not that.
>>
>>379360591
Vice was only good desk. Traffic is barebone without the DLCs and Homicide is repetitive as hell. I don't remember Arson that well.
>>
>>379360591
can't remember
i gotta rewatch it as a movie on YT again

should have been a choice though
>>
>>379360819
But it was made by Australians.
>>
>>379360721
A decent detective game with generic GTA car chase and cover shooting sections forced into it by the publisher.
>>
Homicide would've been better if there were other cases besides Black Dalia murders. It's fucking homicide, it should be the least repetitive yet even Traffic has more variety.
>>
>>379361067
my bad, i guess

just play it, faggot
>>
>>379360591
Neither, arson was superior in every way. So much more difficult, so much less evidence.
>>
JACK KELSO
>>
>>379360591
Vice was boring
>>
>>379360591
Best: Vice
>most variety
>good action
Traffic
>good variety
>only not-shit partner
Arson
>short
>mostly action sequences
>nicholson electroplating is still GOAT
Worst: Homicide
>every case just ends in a truckload of evidence being dumped on you
>the serial killer is a "remember me?" moment but fuck you, no one remembers the temp you talk to for five seconds in the first case
>most obvious case of dropped plotlines
>>
>tfw really wish that those two desks weren't cut from the game
>>
>>379361741
What desks?
>>
>>379361801
Fraud and Burglary you even meet one of your partners from burglary later in the game
>>
>e-celeb spamming faggots get game disccusion thread deleted

gr8
>>
>>379361505
>>the serial killer is a "remember me?" moment but fuck you, no one remembers the temp you talk to for five seconds in the first case

You talk to him twice. And if the coincidence of running into the same random nobody a second time on a separate murder case wasn't a big red flag to you then you are a fucking moron. It was a ridiculously predictable "twist".
>>
>>379360721
A point and click adventure game with tacked on shooting and driving sequences

You can't randomly shoot people and can even just warp from one waypoint to the next, ignoring the open-world part. Which is a shame because it's an incredibly detailed map of old LA with nothing to do.
>>
>>379362276
>using hindsight to pretend you're smart
You only see him once because nobody goes back to the bar since everyone finds the knife first time through. Also he's forgettable as shit, I actually had to search who the fuck he is after I was done with the desk. Not to mention he was never foreshadowed in cases themselves and you have no fucking clues to him and only bust him when he allows you to find him which is fucking retarded
Homicide is garbage, deal with it
>>
>>379360974
Arson's first investigation went on for a eternity and wasn't interesting at all, so I don't blame you for forgetting about it.
>>
>>379362405
>nobody goes back to the bar since everyone find the knife the first time through
Unless I remember the game really poorly, you're talking about a traffic case
>>
>>379362659
Yeah the only two times you can see Garret Mason is if you miss the knife in Marriage made in Heaven and obligatory conversation in Red Lipstick Murder
>>
>>379362405
>hindsight
Fuck off, I was thorough. It's not just the running into him twice, it's also the fact that his job gives him opportunity. It was blatantly obvious he was the real killer from the moment of the second meeting and yet I had to go through the motions of arresting innocent people over and over again because MUH CORRUPTION.

>Homicide is garbage, deal with it
The whole fucking game is garbage. Anyone thinking of playing it should just watch Chinatown and LA Confidential instead and save themselves a lot of time because 90% of the game rips off those films and they are much better.
>>
>>379362998
>It was blatantly obvious he was the real killer once the game told me that
Sure bud

Better question
Who was the best partner?

Ralph
Bekowsky
Rusty
Roy
Herschel
>>
>>379361505
I liked the homicide partner as well
>>
>>379361067
You can't tell. It's VERY American.
>>
I wish the interrogations were handled better. Truth, Doubt & Lie feels really fucked up and you don't even know what Cole is going to accuse somebody of until you hit Lie
>>
>>379360591
I love this game so much I wish there was more like it.
Plus I've grown a chub for jazz.
>>
>>379363187
Bekowsky once he got over his jealousy, followed closely by Rusty.
>>
>>379360591
Who the fuck killed Mrs. Moller?
you start this cuz you watchin' TBFP's LP?
>>
>>379363187
Bekowsky
name alone he wins
>>
>>379362287
>Which is a shame because it's an incredibly detailed map of old LA with nothing to do.
I roamed around the city with my grandmother watching and she reminisced about a lot of the landmarks, it was a fun few hours.
>>
>>379363174

I'm sorry you are an idiot that not only didn't see the obvious twist coming but even completely forgot the character exists but we aren't all as retarded as you.
>>
>>379363256
That's a problem with a lot of dialogue systems in general. It's a really shitty trend that just never really went away.
>>
>>379363256
Even without the face tech and Cole's aggressive questioning you can always sort the statements into
>factually true
>false, but no physical evidence or testimony to prove it
>false with very obvious evidence
>>
>>379363187
I liked Herschel the best, even though he doesn't get much screentime, good thing DLC kinda fixes that though
>>
>>379363256
But you actually need proof for lies, so unless you're winging it, you should kinda know what he's gonna accuse them of.
>>
>>379363412
His freakout with the burnt victims is golden
>>
>>379363375
>still pretending to be smart on anonymous kavkazian horse dancing board
>>
>>379362287
>Which is a shame because it's an incredibly detailed map of old LA with nothing to do.

This. The cars were on point too.
>>379363365
>I roamed around the city with my grandmother watching and she reminisced about a lot of the landmarks, it was a fun few hours.

That's is genuinely cool as fuck, anon.
>>
>>379363393
>"i did not send these papers to the criminal"
>select lie and the shipment papers with his name signed on them
>it was actually his gambling debts
>fail entire case
>>
>>379363578
Oh yeah I remember being fucked by that one as well. They should have designed that better.

You look at the faces.
That's the whole budget right there adn why they wen't under.
That said there was a report that girls that played the game did better as they could read female faces better.

They also have motion scan bloopers from this
it's pretty hilarious like movie bloopers

>>
you are such a weak fucking sister jacob
>>
>>379363393
>>false, but no physical evidence or testimony to prove it
>>false with very obvious evidence

No, the problem is accusing of a lie often involves going off on a tangent and making a new accusation that the person responds to. THAT is the statement you have to disprove with evidence, something you never heard before deciding whether to accuse them of lying or not. It's often done blind, that's probably why they let you back out of it for free but that is just a patch job on a poor implementation.
>>
>>379363256
I think "coax, force, accuse" works better, especially since it's taught as such in the game even after change
>>
>>379360721
It's closest to Phoenix Wright, mechanically.
Rockstar supposedly shoehorned in all the driving and shooting segments.
>>
Game has gorgeous music too.
>>
it was a nice game, really wish adventure games would make a comeback.
>>
>>379363365
I'm legitimately jealous that you have that sort of connection with a grandparent.

The degree of disconnect people have with their families is fucking tragic. All my life people have pointed out how different I am when nobody took any time to share any of their personal interests with me.
>>
>>379361446
Arson also had the best partner. I liked Traffic and Homicide as well, but I think the Arson guy was the most interesting. Fuck the Vice guy.

Also maybe I just don't understand the world, but has an affair ever been that career shattering? I'm still unclear on why ever cop thinks Cole is the devil for fucking another woman, especially since most of them are on the take.
>>
>>379363187
Rusty all day long
His one-liners were right up there with Lenny Briscoe
>Phelps, nudge me when we get there would you?
>How about you nudge me?
>That's your wife's job
>>
>>379363697
I have a feeling they changed it because it makes Cole sound kind of antagonistic. But I mean, even with the buttons changed, Cole is INSANELY antagonistic.
>>
>>379363915
>but has an affair ever been that career shattering
Before like the sixties every job had a morals clause. Ingrid Bergman stopped working for Hollywood in '49 because she had a kid out of wedlock.

Bekowsky, Rusty, and maybe Herschel? I don't remember much about him, but I know I didn't hate my partner there. If Rusty was around, I might be confusing the two.
>>
>>379364150
That explains it. Maybe they mentioned that somewhere and I missed it, but I genuinely didn't know that. I was pretty damn confused as to why they were acting like Cole just shot the city mascot.
>>
>>379363915
The point is they're hypocrites, but Cole was supposed to be the LAPD's golden boy. It would have been a big deal in the 40's though, especially if you had two kids. What I really didn't like was that Cole's personal life was never shown, apart from some dialogue we'd never know he had a wife.
>>
>>379363304
Neither of the guys you take in. All these cases are fucking bullshit, and I hate them.
>>
>>379364176
That's just great.
>>
>>379363365
That's adorable, senpai.
>>
>>379364283
Some of the cases had really strong evidence, like the first suspect with bloody rags and a tire iron in his bedroom. But we never find out what that was about or why he wouldn't submit a plea.
>>
>>379363915
>has an affair ever been that career shattering?
Apparently back in the day adultery was an actual crime and everyone was looking up to Phelps as incurruptible policeman
>>
>>379363915
If I had to guess, police work is a profession where one's honor and a sense of brotherhood is a highly valued thing.

I imagine the police would look past most vices and character flaws but the one thing they cannot abide by is betrayal. The world is such a shitty place but the one thing you can depend on is that the man next to you won't fuck over another man.

That's just me. I think cheating is particularly filthy. It's not that I've ever been cheated on but it just seems like the scummiest betrayal because it takes two people to perpetuate it. The idea that two people can align their shittiness to screw over an innocent party just seems like the worst.
>>
>>379363915
Before cucking became a fetish and people looked down on marriage cheating was a crime
>>
>>379363915
>>
>>379364478
>I imagine the police would look past most vices and character flaws but the one thing they cannot abide by is betrayal.
Nothing so complex as that, it just makes the department look bad if its cops cheat.
>>
>>379364232

American used to be extremely paranoid about moral purity. You are talking about an age where married couples could not be shown sharing a bed even just to sleep in films because it acknowledged the existence of sex. Female actresses in Hollywood would have arranged marriages because being an unmarried woman would result in accusations that you are a lesbian and that was a career ender. Being fired because you were a poor husband or father was not unheard of.

This is why America is still far more uptight about shit like nudity than most of the rest of the world is. It's the remnants of that puritan culture.
>>
>>379364478
See when you put it like that, it makes me wish what turned all the cops against you (since again, they're all apparently mega corrupt) was Cole ratting out his ratty fucking Vice partner. Then they "congratulate" him by putting him in Arson and everyone thinks he's a scumbag for betraying the brotherhood.

As it stands I feel like most of them don't have a leg to stand on, so they come off as just kind of bitchy. Maybe that was the intention, but it seemed like there was supposed to be a genuine betrayal of trust and that doesn't work to well with cheating unrelated to other cops.
>>
I LIKE YOUR ASS!
>>
>>379364582
*and get caught
>>
>>379364650
I'd have liked that a lot better. Bekowsky didn't have anything you could really call him on, but Rusty was good friends with the chief, and Roy had some powerful friends in Hollywoodland. Phelps trying to get them both thrown out, or them preemptively setting him up as a drug addict or taking bribes, he'll even mishandling of the black dalia case would have been more satisfying than an affair going on in the background.

I just want Team Bondi to be like, "Hey, we need to fucking pay the power bill this month and I already sold my shoes to pay for a Whore of the Orient ad on the askjeeves.com toolbar; maybe we should sell our almost perfect recreated map of 1940'a Los Angeles to other companies for them to make cool games with."

It is one of the most realized and detailed open worlds ever made...with NOTHING TO DO IN IT. Like, fuck. It's so cool to drive around and look at everything, but that gets old. Give me some substance.

Give me a 1940's themed alien invasion game in Los Angeles with shit tons of things to do and shoot and find and whatever. Just anything to revisit this awesome map with something to actually do in it.

This can probably never happen however, as it is the Rockstar engine; and I don't see that being a thing that anyone can have.
