Nintendo should've retired Mario decades ago in favour of new ventures like this. Originally, the characters and settings of Mario, Zelda etc were created to facilitate the game shells, but now they literally dictate them, which is no bueno.

It's why most sequels suck. The original game of a given thing usually is retrofitted to the mechanics and concept, the sequels go over the "muh lore", "muh story, muh nostalgia" shit.
