Mainline is less realistic and has more disciplines. Dirt 4 has a realistic handling model that's close to Rally but not all the way there.

Dirt Rally made me realize I don't want to play another Dirt game again. Not because they're bad, it's because I'm in exclusively for the rally and sifting through buggy races and all that shit isn't worth of my time.
