Which was better???
>>
>>379355913
Depends on your tastes I guess. I have a soft spot for Ages because it was my first. I also prefer its more complex level design, puzzles, and its story. Some might find those elements annoying though, Seasons is more streamlined and action-oriented.
>>
Always liked Seasons more
>>
Are they really different or it's a pokemon blue/red situation? Never played them
>>
>>379355913
Seasons is superior. Holodrum and Subrosia are way better than Labrynna, and some of the puzzles in Ages were bullshit.
>>
>>379356243
completely different
>>
>>379355913
Seasons.

Ages had some retarded ass puzzles.
>>
[spoiler} Jabu Jabu's Belly [/spoiler]

Completely different world, story, items, dungeons, gimmicks, but the mechanics are the same.
>>
ages but fuck that goron dancing minigame
>>
>>379355913
Whichever one you didn't have.
>>
>>379355913
I haven't played Ages, but I thought Seasons was tedious. The season switching, the animal buddies, everything about Subrosia. It made everything outside the dungeons feel like a bit of a chore.
>>
>>379356243
They are pretty much totally different games that reuse the same engine and certain assets. At the end of both games you get a password, if you use it on the other then you get a "linked" playthrough which carries over some progress and adds a final extra scenario.

They're entirely different games, and they even have distinct approaches to their design. (Seasons is more Action/Adventure focused, Ages is more Plot/Puzzles focused.)

Personally, I prefer Seasons.

I have a soft spot for Ages since I played it before Seasons, but I've been led to believe more people prefer Seasons > Ages.
Ages is much more puzzle heavy where season is more "actiony". Seasons is more about quick change to traverse areas, such as making it winter to freeze over holes, or grow vines to climb a ridge. Where the line situation is also in Ages, the concept of Ages in much more, find what to change in the past in order to change your path in the future, and it tends to be more fetch quests and puzzles. Both amazing games to me though. When people ask what the favorite Zelda game is, or what they mean to someone, these two and Link's Awakening are my answer. I played much more mobile Zelda than console growing up, and still replay them to this day.
>>
>>379355913
Seasons has a better overworld so I like it more.
Half of Ages overworld is taken up by ocean.
>>
>Onyx disappears for the entire game until the final battle
>Meanwhile Veran is a constant presence and you even get to fight her multiple times
It was especially disappointing since I started with Ages first.
>>
I've always like Ages more.
Ages is a top 5 Zelda for me.
>>
>>379355913

Season was comfier, but Ages had funner puzzles and more story

The best way to play the games is doing Seasons first and then Ages since it felt more fulfilling in therms of finishing the two games
>>
>>379356168
This, but both are patrician. Fucking amazing games. The extra content/items for the second game are amazing. Bombchus and big goron's sword? And it's actually massive.

Ages easily
>>
>>379355913
Link's Awakening, by miles and miles.

Doesn't help that the map is smaller overall, Ages map is 14x14x2 (392 total tiles) where as Seasons is 16x16 with Subrosia being 8x11(344 total tiles). When you take into account how much of Ages is ocean even with 2 maps with past/present it still feels way smaller. despite have almost 50 more total tiles to the world.
>>
Liked seasons better but nayru was hotter
>>
>>379357219
Dear god, they compeltely fucked up the colour palette in Ages and Seasons.

>>
>>379357514
I feel almost the opposite.
I've played through most of Link's Awakening and Season's recently. Awakening's pallet is a lot more washed out than the (especially) saturated world of Seasons.

Both Ages and Seasons cheat a lot with their pallets though. Multiple colors on a character, 4+ colors on a tile.

Their approaches are largely the same. Ages is a bit more focused on puzzles, but that's about it. They're like expansions to one another.

Adulthood is realizing Ages makes more sense

Seasons. Both are solid titles I just prefer the powers more in that game and it's more actiony.

You know the maps are based on the true colors of the graphics, in game, they don't look like that due to the gameboy lightening colors considerably. VBA even has an option to emulate it.
>>
>>379360765
You're looking at the Ages maps as a whole and that's what causing the awkward Color saturation your complaining about. >>379359571 pic is just only one screen shown in different seasons.

>>379361104
Are you blind?
Those two are completely different.
Just look at the yellow ground and the red/purple flowers.
>>
>>379357514
That's the past. For some reason everything is dry and barren there (to keep it from looking too similar to the present?)
>>
>>379361356
That would make sense, but then why doesn't LA look like puke on emulators?

>>379361398
Nope.
Look at this shit:
>>379361104
The colours are completely different.
>>
>>379361628
>The colours are completely different.
Because Spring is suppose to be faded were as Summer is far more saturated. Ages's Present map is pretty much just the middle ground between Spring and Summer
>>
>>379362093
So spring is just the normal LA colours, and summer is eye cancer?
>>
>>379362181
Yeah if your eyes are that fucking sentive about it.
>>
Seasons has the better overworld including Subrosia, since that's where you spend most of your time that by default makes Seasons better.

Seasons' gimmick was also much nicer whereas a lot of the time in Ages you were going back and forth between times because you were a few tiles off where you wanted to land or you landed on a tile and you're automatically sent back.

Seasons has the cape with is the most useful and fun item in the game and shit like the Switch Hook in Ages had no use in the overworld.

Only think Ages had on Seasons was dungeon design and even then, Seasons were acceptable and the last dungeon was great in Seasons.
>>
>>379360361
>Not including the Flying Rooster
>Not including Marin
>>
>>379355913
Jabu Jabu's Belly was harder than OoT's water temple. Hardest dungeon in all of Zelda actually imo.
>>
>>379359918
I freaked out at his dragon form because it was like the same thing as the final boss of Wario Land 3.
>>
>>379360026
You can just use the Wand of Seasons to knock Din out of the way.
>>
>>379358545
Colors on both the Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance were often very bright and saturated to make them stand out and easier to distinguish on the dim, unlit shitty screens. Some emulators have an option to desaturate the colors to make them look more like how they would have actually appeared on the original hardware
>>
>>379364180
That doesn't explain why LA looks good, and the Seasons and Ages don't.
>>
>>379364226
Yes it does, it's literally color oversaturation.
>>
>>379364273
It's literally not.

Look at these and compare:
>>379358773
>>379358196
>>379357219
>>
>>379364341
Just a thought, maybe there a conscious shift by Nintendo to use brighter colors for the dim screens at some point during the GBC's lifecycle. LADX was early in the system's life whereas the Oracles were so late that they included extra features when using a GBA. On GBA everything was really bright
>>
>>379364625
>Nintendo
Seasons and Ages were ROM hacks by Capcom.
That's why the colours are worse.
>>
>>379364341
I doubt that shit is even noticeable in-game
>>
>>379364625
Reminds me of how Shantae had an altered color palette if it detected it was being played on a GBA.
>>
>>379364708
It is, though.

I've only played Seasons and Ages on an emulator, though. They looked like shit compared to LA.
>>

Just play LttP or MC, you'll have a far better experience.
>>
>>379366407
>MC
>far better experience
Probably the worst 2D Zelda.
>>
>>379366542
How can anyone say this when the DS games exist?
>>
>>379366407
>>Both have indistinguishable dungeons which all look alike except one or two, just like LA.

This is wrong. LA was the first game where every dungeon (Besides maybe Bottle Grotto which was pretty generic) was completely different Stuff like keys or looping corridors or chasing a miniboss around.

Seasons is pretty bad about this though. Can;t remember shit from any of the dungeons besides that tower and the lava one.
>>
>>379366789
Because I don't count the DS games as 2D.
I'm wrong if you consider those.
But Minish Cap is still one of the slower 2D Zeldas.
>>
>>379367618
What makes you think LttP's dungeons aren't different from each other?
>>
>>379368091
Superficially but the shared music, repeating tilesets and lack of real puzzles outside of some basic block pushing and the occasional water puzzle in the Swamp makes all the dungeons feel sort of...samey.

Thieves Town was pretty gud though. love the thing with the girl.

And if you want to try to get all rings, at the end of a linked playthrough you get a password again, use that in the same game you just played, then you'll get a 3rd password again after beating a game, use it on the 1st game. So the order would be example Ages>Seasons>Seasons>Ages, can't get all rings if you alternate because then the linked game will both times be the same one.
And you can transfer your rings between all 4 of those playthroughs.
>>
>>379368663
>repeating tilesets
I'll give you the others but this is just wrong, hell there is more palette swap tilesets dungeons for LA than LttP

Btw, have you tried Ancient Stone Tablets, its sort of an official\unofficial LttP master quest, more linear and is episodic but makes far better use of items for puzzle solving.

>>379369325
There is but basic actions like lifting don't require item switches, in general there are as many roadblocks or item checks or whatever you want to call them in LttP and MC
