If all you want is AAA games then PC it's for sure not the place to be. AAA games are like 99% of the time aimed at consoles while sometimes the PC gets the scraps. That's the reality many PC warriors won't admit no matter what.

PS4 probably. You could probably build a decent PC with that budget if you know where to look for good deals but if you don't you might get yourself screwed. Plus if most of you're friends have it and you're looking to buy some co-op then that also makes it more appealing to you as a consumer. PS4 Pro is like 400 bucks, buy that and use the other 100 to buy either games like Bloodbourne, Persona 5 and so on. Or just like, buy food or pay for heat or something.

If you only have $500 then PS4 is definitely the way to go. You won't be happy with the PC you can get for $500. It won't be able to handle the latest games at 1080p/60fps on high graphics settings.

Personally I have a PC and if you have the initial investment to get a good one it's totally the way to go but with what you have get the PS4.

First, I own both so this is just my take.

The reality of the situation is that a PC is a more solid investment at your budget. For 500 bucks you could do something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcrotHUVFN0

If that does not intimidate you, then you'll get more power per dollar and your games library will open up massively compared to a PS4.

If this does intimidate you, and you aren't clever enough to put together the pieces (it's not as hard as it sounds, one piece only fits in one slot so it's not rocket science) then a PS4 might be the way to go.

My problem with the PS4 is that there's just not enough games out for it that interest me. I currently own 5 games for the PS4, and based on how long the console has left on life-cycle (maybe 2-3+ years?) I doubt it will grow to more than maybe 8-10.

Of course YMWW but it's hard to recommend when I play through 8-10 every few months on my PC.

First of all, you've already spent way more than that on those systems.

Secondly the AAA industry has been garbage since the mid 2000s, and everybody knows it. The exclusives you brag about are 90% garbage.

Thirdly the """exclusives""" you get right when they launch usually receive a definitive edition for PC anyway which looks and runs better.

Save it, Build a PC after you amass 1000 additional dollars for parts and build it yourself.

Then your PC will be "future proof" for a good amount of time and you will be able to use the money you would have spend on buying SHIT pre-builts for needed replacements on Consoles instead.

1500$ is roughly the sweetspot budget for good Cost-Performance ratio in my experience, below that and it is just not worth the investment due how fast it will "rot", and higher and you are paying premium for minimal increases.

If you just want AAA (which I don't recommend, most are pretty bad) than go for a PS4, as 500 dollars isn't enough to get 60 fps 1080p anymore on PC. If you're willing to shell out jsut a bit more money, you could build a budget PC and a PS4. PC's best games aren't very intensive anyways, you could get something like a 750ti for pretty cheap nowadays.
