Rondo feels a bit like it. SotN is the next level.

Highly detailed 32 bit sprite world. SotN avoided th big trends in 2D that are just ugly, and instead focused on traditional sprite work but taken to the next level.

Played Sotn last month, it was my first proper castlevania game (i had played LoS 1&2 before)
Really liked it, super fun and addicting once the enemies dont take a bazillion hits each. I even reloaded the save after finishing it to do the stuff to get the inverted castle and good ending

A few days ago i beat super castlevania 4 and liked it too, although some of the bosses like the flying shitlord and death where a pain

Where should i go next? was thinking of rondo of blood, I dont think i can go back to NES tier graphics tho, SNES with great artwork like IV is where i draw the line

In dracula x you find and inlock rondo and sotn in the game. Rondo is like on level 4 and sotn 5 or 6. So you dont have to even beat dracula z to get them. But you should finish x cause it is a great game and has some really god damn difficult parts....shaft battle and dracula arent push overs.

Lots of ahot to unlock...maria char. Split level bosses stage endings etc. Toms of ahit to find...multiple play throughs.

So Metroid is in an interesting spot. It's had a couple remakes and they're both points of contention.
So start with the original. Play it for as long as you can stand it. Once you start to sour on it, if that happens, play Zero Mission. The two games are very different experiences, but Zero Mission is a lot smoother, has a lot of added content, and is leagues better in the visual department. But then again, you might be one of those types that really loves the original.
Then play Metroid 2 for as long as you can stand it. Before Other M came along, this was widely considered the worst game in the series, so that might not be very long. At that point, track down AM2R, it shouldn't be hard to find a torrent. Play that instead, but be warned that there are several nods to other games you'll miss out on. Again, you might be one of those types that likes 2, and that's just fine. Though I do find it odd how the "But it's a misunderstood classic!" crowd was virtually nonexistent before the full release of AM2R.
Next play Super. It's awesome, legitimately one of the greatest games ever made.
Then move on to Prime, Prime 2, and Prime 3. If you like them, that is. The Prime games aren't for everybody, but I thought they were awesome.
