Was Cookie Clicker the original clicker/idle game?

I haven't played it (besides now) since I was in highschool a few years ago, and I remember it was the only thing every single person in my computer science class did all day to the point where the teacher stopped teaching and started playing cookie clicker (not even kidding.)

Yeah, once you get to Fast and Luxury League, shit gets real slow.
But that's not a problem because this is an idle game after all, I've had much longer waits in cookie clicker.

Once you get to Extra League 3 though, you actually can beat it over and over again, a little bit faster each time because you just keep earning coin to get all your food and training regiments better.
Diamonds become super scarce though, but you also keep getting support candies that you in all likelyhood won't get a chance to use.

this is so we'd farm and then feel good when our storage is full of bread
just because you make work easier (ie. video games) doesn't mean that the feeling of accomplishment from them diminishes.
easy work can be even more motivating, especially when you're constantly looking at EVERYTHING YOU'VE built like you are in cookie clicker, as every cookie and production facility is always visible and they mostly only go up, creating a sense of progression.

all you're doing is clicking your mouse in a flash game though.

This is the ultimate shit game, designed to be a pure skinnerbox piece of shit. You're literally clicking to see numbers increase. There are lots of terrible games out there that aren't much more interactive, but at least they're wrapped in some story or have some other value to them.
