i self-insert and i hate myself for doing this but i just cant stop

Had a two-name alias I've used since Guildwars.
only the surname is cringy so i just stuck with it

My name, my son's name or Cloud.
>>379306345
I use my online nickname which is the name of the villain of my favorite game that isn't popular enough for people to easily recognize it

>try to name vidya character
>take hours to find a "good" name
>about to enter then think its shit
>delete name
>rinse repeat
Whatever they're supposed to be called. Unless they don't have an actual name then it's my online name, which I won't say. But it's a name from an old anime. Used it for like 10 years now.

name them after mecha pilots and name female protagsKamille

Canon name if there's one. If not it depends.
If it's a weeb game I go for something Japanese sounding as possible. If not I just use my name or something appropriated to the setting.
Joke names and Jamal-kun are saved for NG+ or second playthroughs.
If they have a canon name I'll use that, because that's their name
If it's a create a character deal where you can self insert I will
If I'm playing as girl I'll name her "Penny" or "Olive" or "Antoinette" or something
I'll either pick a name from a random object around me, mash a couple of funny sounding words/syllables together, or just use some misspelled version of my own name. If it's an online game I'll just use one of the two aliases I've been using forever.
Every female character I invariably name either Anne or Elle.

>research names
>Find out what makes a good lore friendly name
>spend more time tweaking this so it sounds nice along with being lore friendly
>Spawn in
>Next to you are 3 players called "Illidian hord" "Cloud Lionheart" and "DemonLord McNoScopez"
I have to pick a name that i think would be most appropriate for the game that theyre in
Same with mods
I always try to think of an alliteration that applies to the character or build I'm going for

Like this

Male character : Dementory
Female character: Dementia
Games where I can't put the full name: Demen
I has been using those names for years and basically never change them.
>mmorpg allows numbers and special characters in char name
disgusting
those types of games should just randomly assign a lore friendly name or let you combine name elements to make your own
>He doesn't have a small batch of names he cycles through from game to game
Default name. If they don't have a default name, I come up with one that fits the lore of the game.
Ash, always, since it works either way.

delet
I always use something like fag, shit, or fuck, just so I can occasionally chortle at lines of dialogue.
If it's a guy that doesn't have a canon name I'll name him Malcolm
If it's a girl that doesn't have a canon name I'll name her Ulissa
If it's something else like a mech from Armored Core or something not human I'll name it Ramen or some other variant of the name like Ramana, Rameio, or Ramthric as a remembrance to my first dog who I loved

Enjoy the ban.
Self-insert or "Swood" for male. I've named a bunch of my accounts swood
Faith for female. It started with Pokemon when I wanted to do a run as a girl and couldn't come up with a good name, so I chose faith cuz it sounds cool

Depends.
If it is fantasy where i usually make a mage char, its Ethric.
Any other genre its Bob.
I usually self-insert, but if it's something like an Atlus RPG, I like to avoid "Jamal-kun" situations so I go with my username. It still doesn't fit but it feels less autistic.

Quasi-unique name for my donut steel/first character, and then running through the Greek alphabet for names from there on. Works in Etrian Odyssey at least.
