That or low gold. I was like 2200 at the end of S4 and got placed at 1900 after S5 placement. I lost my first game and thought I would be stuck in silver forever, but then I won the next game and got like 100+ SR and got back up to gold. It seems like you have a boost of some sort to let you quickly climb up to the rating you had at the end of S4 but I wish Blizzard would make this shit more transparent. I guess they're afraid of people gaming the system if players knew exactly how it works.

Shit players are stuck in Gold and Silver, and at the end of the day it's easy for 2-3 skilled players to carry an entire team against other bads.

But that's not the case in Platinum. People who get into platinum either get boosted or cheat their way there, because they somehow feel that's where they "truly" belong. But instead of being able to play at that skill level, they're complete fucking garbage and still carry over the mindset that everyone else but them sucks at the game, and that's why they lost. instead of the fact that they picked Torb on attack and refused to switch because "he's viable with this comp", only to play TF2 engine the entire round and set up turrets in the worst location without leaving their side. Diamond and Masters were great last season. Still got a lot of sperg rage but for the most part everyone was way more relaxed and actually could both give and take commentary, criticism, and suggestions on comps and strategies. Hoping i can break out of Plat soon and get back to at least Diamond so i can start having fun with comp again.

If you're just getting into competitive now, the game takes virtually no reading of your stats/skills from QP or other game modes, which means that you're thrown in with all the people new to the game that aren't completely braindead but still suck bad enough that they refuse to take the time to learn how the game works.

Fucking this. I placed high gold last season and climbed to plat. But holy shit, plat players are so much worse than gold players. It's baffling and inexplicable, but it's true. Gold players are shit but at least know they're shit so they're willing to take directions and play as a team. Put it this way. I climbed out of Gold to Diamond last season. Then dropped back down to around 2700 by the end. I had >30 hours on Zenyatta. When I placed for the next season I was at 2648.

S5 started THREE DAYS after S4. I played a total of at least 30 hours over S4 before settling at my rank. What sense does it then make for 10 matches played THREE DAYS LATER drastically change my rank? How would you justify dropping into Bronze or rocketing up into Masters? Do you honestly think THREE DAYS LATER someone's skill has changed dramatically?

From my experience, the placement matches actually affect your rank far less than normal comp matches. My guess is that they're only there to incentivize people to come back every season.

Last time I did competitive with a friend in S3 we won 6 and lost 4, both of us ended up getting placed in high plat. Didn't play in S2 and was rank 60 and 65 in S1.
