Gothic 2 is better in a lot of ways but you will benefit from playing 1 first

And just keep playing until you get used to the controls and figure out how combat works.

Gothic 1 is probably the most noob-unfriendly game ever created, so it gives a bad first impression but once you figure out how it works it becomes one of the best games ever

Gothic 2 improves a lot and is more enjoyable still

Gothic 1 feels like an alpha of a game but still it's good

It's cool, just be wary of any unknown enemy, even wasps and wolves will fuck you up at the beginning. Try to get quests done and aim for weak scavengers.

Because if you do then you fucked up because Gothic 1 and 2 are $2 on GoG right now and the gog version works without patches

It's the same person who spams threads about it every single day. It's a mediocre RPG that's aged terribly, although it's very popular with central Europeans.

Morrowind (which came out around the same time) blew it out of the water.

1. Don't install anything except for patches if it doesn't work, every mod out there is trash
2. Start from the 1st one, don't drop it straight away, but learn the weird control scheme, it's gonna be fine once you get used to it
3. 2nd Gothic must be played with the official addon, Night of the Raven, it's piss easy and lacks content without it
4. 3rd Gothic is almost unplayable without the community patch, which makes it an alright game
5. Prepare your anus for a hardcore game experience
