Can we discuss a actually good game for once
>>
>>379296670

Oh, look. Another megastructure game that trades all of dorf fort's depth away for the sake of graphics and gimmicks.
>>
>>379296670
cant discuss something when everyone agrees its great.

Actually play the game instead of spewing stupid shit, nigger.
>>
>>379297480

Please explain any way that I'm wrong.
>>
>>379297079
It's not even the same type of game.
>>
>>379297638
The game has a demo. Explain yourself wrong. Now fuck off.
>>
Have there been many changes in the past year? I like the system but got pretty bored with the rocket building mission.
>>
>>379296670
I lose motivation to scale up once I got my base running. Also the recent balance changes are hit or miss.

There's been a big update that added nuclear power and other stuff.
>>
>>379297638
becuase it's nothing like dwarf fortress you turd burglar. Factorio is about building, expanding, and automating an increasingly complex factory of production lines and systems. It doesn't aim to tell a story like Dwarf Fortress, it more about the challenge of creating efficient production lines with limited space.
>>
>>379297672

You're right, for the first hour or so. Then, you've got your robot army flying out of your backpack and the game is just a shallow blueprint-placing walkabout.

I'm working on a mod at the moment. Programming in lua is hard compared to .net

You harvest tiberium to make the raw resources instead of mining regular ores. Tiberium spreads over the map and destroys things it contacts.
>>
>>379298463
This shouldn't be a surprise considering C# is the best traditional language with gorillions of microshill dollars behind the libraries.
>>
>>379298140
Are you implying Dorf fort got flying robots building stuff for you? And you won't have a good enough production line after just one hour. Neither have you researched enough to have a giant army of drones building and moving everything for you.
>>
>>379298463
Tiberium was the first thing I thought when I saw that uranium ore as well

Forget about MS; why does lua have really strange syntax? Why is it 1 based? Why is there no continue construct? Why is there no exception handling?
>>
>>379299349

The only difference between the dwarves and the flying robots is that you leave some of your dwarves to man the machines after they fill in your blueprints.

Also, most of my playtime after my first run has been multiplayer, so I'll admit that we probably get tech a good bit faster than intended.
>>
>>379299581
Don't write code that can have exceptions, fag. Cover your bases.

That's kind of hard to do when your null checks throw null reference exceptions...

My only grip is there should be a better way to use excess oil. I hate having to babysit my processing plants. Yes yes i know i can make hard fuel but who like stockpiling that when you just need plastic for a bit.

Actually one of the cool things about factorio is that there's almost always a solution to any problem you come across, It might not look pretty or be very efficient but it'll work. I think that's part of the magic of this game at least it is for me.
>>
>>379304136
You can slap shit together and it will work. Your factory can be the biggest clusterfuck imaginable or perfectly calculated and streamlined. There's no penalty for tearing things down and rebuilding either.
>>
when's the big patch coming to factorio?
the game is fun and all but after playing through it once (or halfway through), it becomes boring and/or a chore. really one-dimensional.
still, waiting for the big patch
>>
>>379302006
How do you live without full radar coverage?
>>
>>379306110
not him but what?
like 2 radars is enough
>>
>>379306512
How tiny is your base that 2 radars is enough? Look at the image he posted, the entire oil refinery area is covered by the fog of war, plus other parts of the base and all the mining outposts. That shit would drive me up the walls. By base has 114 radars.

Death world is the best thing to happen to Factorio.
>>
>>379307294
What are all these squares in your base
>>
>>379306902
my base was compact, not sure how to measure size though.
i still don't see a point for building radars, what's the use of them?
>>
>>379307646
They give you sight into the location, Like you can physically zoom into your map and see what's happening. It also updates you in real time about what's going down in it's coverage area like if you're getting attacked and if that wasn't enough it also slowly reveals the parts of the map.
>>
>>379307595
Those are my 39k solar panels and 35k accumulators.

>>379307646
Radars let you use the map to zoom in on parts of your base and interact with them. You can place blueprints, deconstruct things, and generally manage your entire factory without ever needing to move around so long as you have radar coverage.
>>
>>379297313
Excuse me wtf r u doing
>>
>>379308040
I'm still fairly new to the game and just semi-automated my green science production. I say semi because I still need to put the raw material (metal and copper sheets) in some chests, but this was an intentional choice so it wouldn't leech all my resources on science packs

Honestly no idea what to do from now, all the technologies are such a turn-off because nearly all of them would require me to destroy what I already have just to implement them. And I am playing at pacifist mode so I have no reason to expand.

I am afraid of disabling pacifist mode and getting many areas of my factory attacked since it's a little big. Not because it's dense, but because I have huge transport belt lines.
>>
>>379307976
yeah, the only reason i ever built radars what to reveal map. then again, i didn't go full autismo
>>
>>379304437
Bullshit, I'm a knucklehead NEET and I can handle circuits like a pro.
>>
>>379308496
I'd focus on researching construction robots, which will let you use blueprints. You can use them to copy/paste parts of your base and use the deconstruction planner to quickly take down your base. With construction robots you can easily and quickly move things around to make things more efficient. Don't be afraid to experiment, unlike other games Factorio does not punish you for tearing shit down.

>I say semi because I still need to put the raw material (metal and copper sheets) in some chests, but this was an intentional choice so it wouldn't leech all my resources on science packs
I wouldn't worry to much about that. At any given time you may have dozens or hundreds of science packs sitting on a conveyor but it isn't really an issue so much because eventually they will be used. Making it fully automatic will save you a lot of hassle.
