It's meant to be fun, anon. Not everything has to be deep.

The game is very bare bones at launch, kind of like Splatoon, however Splatoon had a compelling and interesting single player campaign with Octavio as a great boss.

However ARMS has no story whatsoever, there was a gameXplain Q&A where they talked about the single player content and i mean you jump from fight to fight and the only lore you get are the ones that appear on the loading screen or something, they talk a bit about the character you are playing with but thats about it.

I hope Nintendo manages to make it popular, however they will have to provide the game with a continuous batch of upgrades to keep things fresh.

My friend got a review copy, I only played the Testpunch and preordered it. He said the game is fun, but people will critique the lack of stuff to do. Apparently the full game is pretty barebones right now.

Kinda the same situation as with Splatoon, though time will tell is ARMS will get as popular even before new characters and stages get added.
