It's a colorful RPG with a good battle system and good characters that's stuck trying to balance SMT, FE, and Idolshit game mechanics while also trying to please all 3 fanbases, which is borderline impossible. I'm convinced that Ninty will eventually release a Switch version with some added content, considering this started out as one of the biggest hyped games for the Wii U and ended up bombing in sales.

I found the difficulty curve on 2 to be inconsistent. It really ramped up at the end without warning.

I played Devil Survivor before the other SMT games though, and I found that none of them do a great job of explaining the many mechanics and whatnot in them. Still managed to figure everything out without ever looking up a guide online, though, so the game definitely has the resources in-game to master it.
