The physics and art look great, so there's that.

And to be fair while they are reusing assets for green hill and flying battery, they aren't just copying and pasting the level design, they're incorporating new ideas and path ways, like having wooden beams being able to be destroyed with fire shields, or getting to walk on ceilings with the electric shield.

S1 might have another zone to make up for the fact that GHZ is in every fucking game now, so I'd pick Marble Zone for something hopefully fast and not slow platforming. Aquatic Ruin for 2, or maybe Oil Ocean if they can really spice things up with it. I can honestly be happy with any zone from 3, but I'm hoping for Hydrocity the most. I'm glad Flying Battery is in but I would also love for Mushroom Hill to get in as well as it's one of my favorites. And Stardust Speedway was the best choice for CD, next best being Quartz Quadrant probably.

Remastered zones are all about bringing out new potential for zones, though. Marble Zone has good music and visuals, but the original design is very slow platforming; with some creative design decisions, they could very well make it a fun zone that mixes in some of the original platforming but maintains the pacing (ie no riding across lava on slow blocks, more routes, etc). But the same can be said with all mediocre zones, "they COULD be done better".
