The Nexus in DeS
>>

Nexus and Firelink are both better.

>when you actually thought this game will be actually an improved sequel of das

It was, it's better than DS1 in every aspect. DS2 being bad is just a meme.

>>379258139
It isn't even the best in the series dipshit. Nexus easily beats it.
>>
>>379259617
as someone who still really loved das2 it isnt

enemy designs are much less interesting, so is the world design or majority of the equipment. The enemy behaviour is also much more boring, in das theu frequently used things like dodge/block/parry/grab/estus chugging but in das 2 things like these are extremely rare with regular enemies.
>>
>>379258139
Honestly I like the Hunter's Dream more, pre-endgame of course.

Also am I the only one who feels that the DS2 combat feels floaty and flaccid as fuck? I mean in all the others you eat hits and hit like a truck, I can't feel any of that in DS2
>>
>>379259823
everything was smoother, and the sound effects were softer. you are correct
>>
>>379259808
>things like these are extremely rare with regular enemies
Absolutely wrong. There's a number of enemies who can parry/riposte and chug estus in 2, compared to what, the parry/riposting skelebros in 1? Not counting npc invaders or player-modeled enemies since those can do it across all games

The Nexus

>>
>>379260000
I know they can do them but they do them so extremely rarely, its like these commands didnt even exist.

aive replayed das 2 3 times and was really surprised when in my 3rd playthrough Ive saw a grave guard chugging estus, so was when a hollow soldier actually used parrying when balder lnights or skellies regularly did these things in das1. Still its more about the enemies dodging frequently what made das1 pvecombat feel more alive.

majola had elder god tier comfyness
>>
>>379258139
Majula is fine, but it isn't nearly as good as the Nexus or Firelink.
>>
>>379258139
The Nexus now fuck off
>>
I actually liked Firelink better.

Mostly because I liked how it felt more of an organic hub area. It's the hub because of where it's located, and how many paths unlock back to it, not just because you're forced to go there whenever you want to level up.
>>
>>379258139
Only thing Majula had going for it was the music. Otherwise it's a shit tier "Soulsborne" hub
>>
>>379258652
Well, it's hard to top Majula in terms of comfyness, but I would say that this is at least equal

>dead, static, boring place where absolutely nothing moves
>it's comfy cause there's music!

A hub is comfortable when it actually contrasts the hardships of the game and gives you a chance to take a breather, enables you to converse with peaceful NPCs that help you better understand the world and have dynamic, expanding storylines. Majula did none of that, it's a boring ass fucking place where nothing ever happens and you can't wait to finally leave so you can find one redeeming quality about this shit game. I am 100% serious when I'm saying it's artificial comfiness.

the idea of a silent peaceful village where no harm can happen being in a dangerous apocaliptic world is pretty cpmfy in itseld desu
>>
>>379261062
It would be the best one if you actually had a reason to go there regularly and if there was anything to do there, other then checking your e-mail once in a blue moon.
Although it might be tedious, I really think the game could use some kind of time measuring mechanic, so that you would have to return to your safehouse before daylight and feed more regularly. It would make the game much more immersive and actually give the hubs a reason for existing. Another thing is, because of the constant night the game kind of feels like if everything was happening during a single night, while the plot is obviously supposed to take a longer period of time.
>>
>>379261456
It's not a fucking village though. Everyone that returns there gathers around the fucking cliff/statue. The houses in the back and everything beyond the bonfire server no fucking purpose. Nobody rebuilds shit. It's just a murderhobo camp ground that's bigger than it needs to be.

It could have literally just been a small cliff-side camp. It being a destroyed town servers no purpose. The NPCs don't wander or anything.
>>
>>379260792
And because there was no fast travel at the beginning, it was a journey simply getting back there which gave it a much more homely feeling since it wasn't available at all times.
>>
>>379261578
but every house/object is occupied with one npc at least, firelink shrine was also like that, it just had a lot more scripted changes.

out of my way son

you can hardly call it a hub
>>
>>379258139
sadly majula is the best part of the game
>>
>>379258139
As a place majula is absolutely top of the comf, but firelink is undeniably a better "hub"
>>
>>379258869
If you werent disappointed immediately with the awkward run cycle, attack animations and weird turn radius/deadzone you are a donkey.
>>
>>379261372
Starting town=/=hub but I agree it is comfy.
Accept for one wrong move and you get killed by that stupid Brine shit.
Or if you just wade too deep into the water.

>>379261372
it's a shame you never get to visit the boardwalk pavilion that gets smashed by the dragon in the intro.

Gran Soren, though there isn't much going on outside of MASTERWORKS and the tavern, is still super comfy. I wish more of what the devs had planned had made it in. Gran Soren would have probably been full of shit to do, with the shady little backalley shops and the slums in the sewer.

>>379258139
DeS Nexus is god-tier, with the Hunter's Dream in close second. DaS1 firelink is tied with the Dream, in my opinion, then Majula, then DaS3 firelink.

I don't like DaS3's firelink. It tries too hard to be discount Nexus AND firelink shrine and fails to be either. At least Majula was trying to be something different.

Nothing will ever top the sheer awe-inspiring scale of the Nexus, though. The only thing that comes close is the shrine from SotC

There's also Balder fags and hollow thieves, for example

Who parries you in 2 outside of the Heide(?) knights that are all around?

>>379264151
>Not liking Firelink
>Not enjoying seeing how it started out empty and dead but slowly became livelier as more people came in, and you could see someone at every corner
>Not enjoying the sadness that came over as people started to leave and the place started dying out again

It was way more interesting. And you went back to it and went from it to places very organically as you explored, bringing everything together. Not like Majula where you have to go there artificially because they arbitrarily decided that you needed to level up at an NPC for the nostalgia points

You're forced to stop your gameplay and warp there and then warp back instead of it all developing more naturally

In DeS this worked because the levels were disjointed and there was no staying in a level after death, no checkpoints outside the archstones. The Nexus enhanced the cycle of entering a level -> beating it/dying -> going back because it's an integral part of the game instead of tacked on

And the Nexus was a pretty good hub with an interesting evolution too. While it doesn't really get depopulated, the two that do leave, Ostrava and Biorr, are placed in the middle so you can inmediately see that they're not there anymore

The Ebon Hawk in KOTOR 1 and 2

Nothing comfier than hanging out on your ship and going around to talk to your squadmates while the sound of the low hum of the engines fill the air. It was especially great because it still had a dark and mysterious side to it, despite being your ship, like it's had years of history that you'll never know just what it's been through

The Normandies in Mass Effect are great for that first reason as well
